Lol no not banded just 135s and yes the X19 ones look awesome! I like the ones with all the little holes in not sure what the name is. I'm a bit funny with alloys on 126s I always think they look too "chunky" like a mirco machine

Re: Luigi II...... by gadge

Loads done today, started rust proofing the rusty areas and completed the front suspension swap from drun brake to disc just got to bleed it all up and then do the rears tomorrow.

I would stick a photo up but for some reason the forums gallery isn't behaving itself with me today - there all upside down and in the wrong order despite me editing them

Re: Luigi II...... by gadge

ok finally sorted some photos out .

I also finished rebuilding the brakes and bled them all out. the shoes were a bit fiddly but I got there in the end. Also quite interestingly I discovered that the front tyres are 135/70 r 13s and the rear were 145/70 r 13s quite legal I know but very strange indeed. so new parts fitted so far.....

recon front hubs with new king pins,
new hoses (X4)
front disc conversion using punto/seicento calipers,
new cross drilled discs,
new front shocks (rears to go on soon),
new front wheel bearings (rears also to go on soon)
new rear shoes, wheel cylinders and drums,
new steering rack and tie rods,

now I've started stripping him down for the most thorough wash/T-cut/polish and waxing that I've ever done!

Re: Luigi II...... by gadge

Just picked up my new or should I say reconed wheels and the look awesome!! the shop did a splendid job matching the silver of the plastic centre caps and will really change the appearance of the car when fitted, say I

Pictures to follow, I've also spent the last four evenings after work washing, clay baring, t-cutting and polishing the car up and it looks (finally!!) a lot better than the grimy mould ridden pond bug that it looked like when I picked it up from dartford. I seriously think it hadn't had a wash in years and I don't think it has ever been polished in its life!

Re: Luigi II...... by gadge

so the rain never came so it was all hands to the pumps to get some bits back on luigi starting with the luggage compartment. a new battery was first in followed shortly by the jack, spare, new bonnet catch and the colostomy bag (the washer bottle )

then it was onto the outside. NOS bumpers, NOS ariel from an Uno, headlamps, clear indicators and repeaters, NOS rear lamps and of course the newly refurbed wheels quite a transformation I'd say.

next up is to fit the chrome door handles, get some orange bulbs for the indicators, sort some holes out and fit a reverse and rear fog lights

Re: Luigi II...... by gadge

Well I took him for a brief spin around the block today to try out all the new brakes/suspension/steering that I've slaved away fitting and I have mixed feelings about the experience........ Firstly the steering pulls to the left and the steering wheel doesn't sit straight (20 mins on a tracking machine should sort that) the steering itself doesn't seem smooth almost like its goes tight then light then tight again as you turn a slow corner (it's a new rack so perhaps just needs bedding in?) but it's the brakes that are bothering me. As mentioned above I have fitted a front disc conversion and although the car stops quite well indeed the pedal feels alittle spongy? Also as I slow the car down I can hear small knocking noise comming from the front passenger side and can actually feel the pedal moving up and down slightly in perfect time with the "knocks" suggesting that the caliper is moving about (or something on the disc).

I've took the wheel off and everything seems ok. The discs do show signs of surface rust where they've been in the garage. I did rub them down however prior to refitting them to the new car so I'm hoping that it will just get better

On the plus side I fitted the new gear knob
