Cinquecento My '93 1.4 16v Cinquecento

Introduction

Hi everyone,

After best part of ten years with various Italian cars, I'm now back where I started.... with a Cinq!!

I bough it already converted to 1242 16v power but it will be undergoing a lot of work to improve and tidy bits here and there.

Since buying it I've swapped the K&N for a CDA, I've re-fitted the orange front indicators and flushed the coolant and fitted a cleaner expansion tank. Alternator belt changed, that's fun with the engine mount being so close! Major service coming soon as well.

Please excuse the crappy pictures, my phone is rubbish!!

Rear window is tinted, that will be coming off:

Has a 1.6 16v Bravo TB, RR'd at 89bhp:

With my standard Seicento Sporting:

Lots of stuff on the to do list including fitting Spax kit (ordered), move the battery back in to the engine bay, moving ECU to other side of engine bay, polybush nearly everything I can buy a polybush for, put rear seats back in, upper and lower strut bar and fit Uno turbo calipers! Should keep me busy!

Lots more little jobs need doing, car has been keyed so that needs doing as well. I might upgrade to a 1.4 at some point but I won't get too carried away yet!

Overall though it's a cracking little car, so much fun and once I've sorted a few bits (mainly the brakes and the suspension!!) it should be fantastic.

Its nice to see this car with its new owner.

For what its worth, i have 2 16v cars, one has the ecu on the correct side and the other on the opposite, i just wanted to be different , lol.

looks like a cranking little car, cannot remember the last time i saw a cinq that colour on the road, its been a while anyway.

And no, not confused, thats simple history. I sold my cinq to a lad called Andy (who is a member on here), he had it for a bit and sold it to a lass i don't know. She thrashed it about for a few weeks until the HG went, sold it to another guy who just changed the HG and sold on again to another lad. This lad became a member on here and was fixing her up a bit until he lost his driving licence. At this point it had no MOT or tax or any documents with it by now. I bought it back for scrap value 18months after i sold it, and quite a bit more scruffy. Now thats confusing ;)

Anyway, look forward to reading how this one progresses (y)

Yeah, that's confusing!!

The guy selling it on ebay had it one day before he'd had enough. Bought it as a pizza delivery car but after one night decided it was too hard and loud! I can see why!

Due to some interesting wiring it cut out on me today. Will be sorting wiring, ECU and battery this Saturday in the nice warm confines of the company workshop. Will get some pics up.

ECU now relocated and battery back in engine bay plus got the heater cover back in:

Moving ECU was a bit of a PITA, would be much easier with engine out!

Got Sporting interior in now, made the car a bit more bearable. Can't wait for Spax to turn up, it's currently running some rather chopped springs :-(

How easy is it to swap a 1.4 16v in now that the car is running a 1.2 16v? From reading the guides it seems like I'll need to beef up the FPR, do I need to change injectors? I'd run it with the 1242 ECU. Would a standard Sei Abarth gearbox be up to the task? Other than that it seems like I just bolt it in.

Anyone running a 1.4 16v with 13" wheels??

I'm running 14's on my 1.4....to accommodate the larger brakes. I started off with 13's, and the brakes were okay, but now its undergoing a turbo conversion, I felt it really needed decent size discs front and back, plus better selection of tyres.

If you can find Uno turbo brakes, you can stay on 13s. Otherwise, I'd go for Punto GT3 (same as Marea, etc., list in the Guides) fronts only (doing the rears gives you nothing extra except for track use, and then only if you trail brake extensively, and it's a real pain to do properly -- one off cables, etc.) and 14" 6J for cheap performance tyres.

Already got UT calipers, hopefully going to fit them on Sunday.

Looking at the tyres, 175/50r13 Yoko A048s are reasonably priced (for track tyres) and it's currently running A539 which seem pretty good.

My old Cinquecento had 14s with PGT brakes and while the grip and braking were excellent I felt the handling and acceleration suffered.

For outright track use (really, we're talking competition) 13" are the only sane choice: much better choice of compounds, etc. But 175/50/13s will have pretty much the same circumference as 195/45/14s, so there shouldn't be much effect on gearing, and my guess is you've now got an awful lot more torque now anyway.

As the PGT (etc) front brakes will be more effective (simply down to the physics), it's going to be a close call!

Well I'm keeping the 13s on mainly because I like them! Proper Fiat fitment Revolution RFXs. If the setup I'm planning is not gonna stop me well enough I'll consider upgrade to PGT and 14s.

Car is currently misfiring slightly, and I've changed plugs, leads and coils, so that's gonna need attention :(

I was watching this one on eBay the other day,was very tempting ;) I have the same wheels, are yours 13x6?

Yes, they are :slayer: need a bit of a refurb but thats waaaaay down the list of stuff to do.

Just took car for a spin with lambda disconnected and seemed a lot better, will be swapping that tomorrow now (the benefits of working in a motor factor!).

Mine are in refurb state as we speak! You don't happen to know what spacers it's running front and rear do you? :)
