I have a 2007 swift bolero fiat ducato 2.3 td 130 multijet Motorhome. I ave been having a terrible time starting it and have put new glow plugs in, new glow plug relay and yet the problem persists. I started this evening (eventually !!!) after about 5 minutes of continual cranking of the engine. In total I probably cranked the engine 5+ times and then it fired up. I always depress the clutch and do not pump the accelerator, it then for now apparent reason starts. I have noticed, as before, the glow plug light only stays on for 1 to 2 seconds and is the same before I changed the glow plugs and relay. Once the engine started I noticed a sign (a car with a padlock thru it) on the instrument panel remained on thru out the 30 minutes I kept the engine running. HELP , WHY IS MY MOTORHOME SO DIFFICULT TO START, I am so fed up with it that I nearly always flatten the battery. HELP, anyone.

1) check fuel whether sie isn't moving back, or there is a small pressure on the high side, icon of the injection sie he isn't smoking or is flashing 2) padlock namely you have disconnected immobilizer 3) it is too warmly therefore the stamp of candles is disappearing, is smoking sie only test, 4) are starting warming spark plugs up after more low -5 or -10 steps, I hope that it translated intelligibly

sounds to me like you have fuel draining back to fuel tank,
must have an air leak in system allowing fuel to run back,
before trying to start engine, turn on ignition and listen to
fuel pump, when it stops pumping try starting engine.

may be completely wrong but it is possible.

Eric:)

You need to get diagnostics check for codes and look at the pressure during cranking, the pressure should be over 300bar afer 1-3 seconds, 5 minutes of cranking will just get you a broken starter.

Fiat use a Keycode system

Most fiats have a Key with code under neath, or a car with a padlock through it

Those 2 symbols are the immboliser
It should upto ignition, light up and then go off

If the light stays on - the car is immbolised, end of, IT WILL NOT START
it'll disable the fuel and ignition system = No brum brum

the light coming on but starting means there has been a problem
A - partial signal
B - Signal interferance
C - Key code manual input
D - Fault but allowed starting

Confirm your immboliser is deactivated before cranking :)
Btw Diesel = No ignition system so just injection disabled

If it will crank for five minutes cant be much wrong with battery

I've never experienced anything like this myself, so I can only say what I've heard. Surely if the engine is being cranked without firing up for a long period of time, it's likely there's just not enough current?

It's always worth checking even so, the battery gets overlooked - expensive parts are replaced instead yet to no avail, normally by dealers too :)

yes- very true,:)
I've had poor starting from JTD's in the past - the KEY /LOCK symbol is a clue here..!!,;)

Hi tygrys,
try your other translation tool,;)

this is a little confusing to read in English,
thanks,
Charlie

The code light is on because of the voltage brownout when cranking it, the next problem you'll end up with the key code and the immobiliser code becoming unsynchronised due to a loss of communication during the rolling code update and you'll be calling a locksmith or getting towed to the dealer. Theres no point in speculating and ending up stuck on the hard shoulder or burning out your starter.
