Stilo My 1.2 Stilo

Introduction

My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

Here's the life of my car so far in pictures, I just want to see how much I can repair/modify the car by myself before it dies.
And for as cheap as possible for some bits.

Here she is before I bought her

After a while I got a cat back exhaust made by powerflow

Then my intake melted so I got a K&N pod filter

Then I bought a set of alloys from a guy on here
20130303_151155.jpg

Then there was too much of a gap in the wheel arches so I got some lowering springs and shocks
20130703_163002.jpg

Then the Mrs cleaned her and I fitted a debadged grille
20130303_151134.jpg

The engine started to splutter, bet you cant guess which cylinder had the problem

Here's a little thing, wind deflectors. Their great when it rains
20130722_201424.jpg

Then I changed out the old clocks for the one with the nice big screen

Next is a bit of a bigger project, the 1.2 Turbo Stilo
20130801_182221.jpg

So I start cleaning it up a bit

Here I'm changing out the spring to try to get the wastegate to run at around 5 psi

And that's about as far as I got with the turbo other than getting everything sorted for the oil line. I got an adaptor for the oil pressure sensor to also feed oil to the turbo and got some steel braided cable for it.
For the outlet I still need to find a spot in the sump for the return. I still haven't decided weather or not to get a decompression plate yet for such little boost.

Then I got bored and put some brightness adjustable lights for the foot wells. The head unit is something I got a while ago, ordered it from china and I love it for the gps mainly but its also got a dvd player/freeview (rarely used), mp3 player from sd card, tyre pressure display, radio, bluetooth, I've also got a rear view camera connected to it

That's it so far. Any suggestions for what to do next would be great.
I love this car and cant leave it alone, next I'm thinking a matte black paint job :slayer:
Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

Yes pretty much everything is stock at the minute. Just testing everything to see what is needed and what it will manage with.

The current map sensor I believe is just 1 bar as when the turbo reaches boost the sensor peaks at 5 volts and throws up the error message. A 2 bar one is what I'm after or 1.5 if I can find one then I'll be looking for slightly bigger fuel injectors.

This screen shot has a good bit of info on the sensor

I really like the route your going down, I was considering something similar with a P75 set-up in my cinq, in theory, if you get a 2bar MAP sensor and a set of slightly bigger injectors you should be ok to run a little bit of boost, granted its not going to set any records power wise but it will give a nice cheeky little bit of boost action.

Unfortinatly as far as I am aware, you cant get the stock ECU re-mapped, but what you could do is get a cheeky little piggy-back and that would allow you to start running a bit higher boost, but I would say, anything over 6psi an intercooler will be needed to cool the boost down a little.

I will be following this closely.

whats the std map sensor part number ? and plug type ? number of pins ?
is there a temp sensor built in it ?
mines here 3 bar I would guess the 115hp jtds use the 2.5bar shown here maybe Mario can confirm number.

I don't see many 2 bar on the bosch sites you may have to use the 2.5bar one.

I believe ours are fitted with the same 3bar T MAP sensor, as that's what mine looks like anyway. its not the HOSE style one.

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

Thanks Mario, I'll be aiming for just under 6 psi, im interested in seeing what kind difference it will make, granted it won't be much but better than nothing.

I think your right Sussexa, I've had a look at some of the data sheets and I can only find a 2.5 bar sensor. Mines the 0 261 230 030, 4 pin one. I've found one to try so going to see how the engine takes to it.

Need to look for some injectors now

without mapping it will just see the real pressure as low
eg your map now sees
5v=1 to 2 psi
a 2.5 bar map sensor not mapped will see
5v=21-22psi
so at 6 psi it might give say 1v which your ecu will see as a massive vacuum instead.
you need to be careful with this sort of thing as it probably wouldn't take much to start running lean and melting stuff ?
id find someone whos done a non turbo to turbo conversion and pick their brains. there are some in the other fiat lounges . you should find some conversions in this search

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

Sussexa, still looking into this issue with the map sensor, not much progress made yet but I have got a hold of the 2.5 bar variant of the the same sensor.

It's a damn shame how that punto ended up, very interesting read though.

Well in the mean time I've been playing with a few leds, I got a little tired of the orange so tried red, white and blue.

I settled on the white, I think the others were a bit too much

Looks good. I need to take my clocks out, got a burnt out Engine Management Light and every time I start the car it throws up the check engine warning because of it.
Wouldn't know where to start and I couldn't be arsed to do it myself - I'm too heavy handed for things as delicate as that lol

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

Samuel if you do take them out then just be careful with the needles as the pins they sit on are prone to snapping the mechanism it sits in or just pulling the pin out with the needle (just from my experience).

Jatkinson, I used the 1206 white leds, got 100 for £3.75 off eBay. Good deal

Dont know if any use to you samuel ive got a spare set of standard clocks if your intrested and if your near me to collect full working order

This is precisely the reason I wouldn't try changing the Bulbs DCK. I've got no patience and am really heavy handed - I'm constantly accidentally breaking things!

Where abouts are you AJ? Are they easy to swap out? Also my car is a Multijet, what model is yours from? Cheers

Im from newcastle-under-lyme mate. They are easy to change over but u will need proxy alignment these to get the car read the right mileage. Mine is a 1.2 16v active model

That's more involved than I can bothered with if I'm honest lol. Thank you for the offer though AJ, one of the reasons I love this forum - always someone willing to help you.

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

No probs mate and thats true someone is always happy to help on here which not many forums do these days most just criticise your car and thats not how it should be

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

So a few more updates, I wasn't too keen on having a boost gauge on show in the usual spots like on the pillar or dash so I decided to make use of one of the air vents.

The first attempt wasn't my best idea, it was a bit too well hidden making it awkward to read.

20141229_180821.jpg

Then my next idea was to cook some spare perspex to sort of form the right shape and cut a hole in for the gauge, here's how that turned out.

After spraying it black I took it for a test, the car makes about 6 PSI at full boost making it that little bit more fun to drive.
