Stilo My 1.2 Stilo

Introduction

My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

Here's the life of my car so far in pictures, I just want to see how much I can repair/modify the car by myself before it dies.
And for as cheap as possible for some bits.

Here she is before I bought her
24092011333.JPG

After a while I got a cat back exhaust made by powerflow
20130217_134417_Esther Square.jpg

20130217_141841_Esther Square.jpg

Then my intake melted so I got a K&N pod filter
20130126_150410_Esther Square.jpg

Then I bought a set of alloys from a guy on here
20130303_151155.jpg

Then there was too much of a gap in the wheel arches so I got some lowering springs and shocks
20130703_163002.jpg

Then the Mrs cleaned her and I fitted a debadged grille
20130303_151134.jpg

The engine started to splutter, bet you cant guess which cylinder had the problem
20130325_171830_Esther Square.jpg

Here's a little thing, wind deflectors. Their great when it rains
20130722_201424.jpg

Then I changed out the old clocks for the one with the nice big screen
20130718_170416.jpg

Next is a bit of a bigger project, the 1.2 Turbo Stilo
20130801_182221.jpg

So I start cleaning it up a bit
20130802_213415.jpg
20130802_220706.jpg

Here I'm changing out the spring to try to get the wastegate to run at around 5 psi
20130927_160744.jpg
And that's about as far as I got with the turbo other than getting everything sorted for the oil line. I got an adaptor for the oil pressure sensor to also feed oil to the turbo and got some steel braided cable for it.
For the outlet I still need to find a spot in the sump for the return. I still haven't decided weather or not to get a decompression plate yet for such little boost.

Then I got bored and put some brightness adjustable lights for the foot wells. The head unit is something I got a while ago, ordered it from china and I love it for the gps mainly but its also got a dvd player/freeview (rarely used), mp3 player from sd card, tyre pressure display, radio, bluetooth, I've also got a rear view camera connected to it

That's it so far. Any suggestions for what to do next would be great.
I love this car and cant leave it alone, next I'm thinking a matte black paint job :slayer:
I like it very much what you are doing to your Stilo, nice job and good luck.

Sorry for off topic: does anyone know if the caliper mounting bracket from a Stilo Abarth will fit into my 1.6 ? I am looking for a little front brake conversion and i am not really sure if will fit. Brake disc, pads, caliper and its mounting bracket...

This is a Member's Motors thread for @DCK to discuss his car.

It would be better if you made a seperate thread for you brake query.

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

Well, the speed bumps round here are not nice

But after some crappy welding from me its up and running again
1388275301143.jpg

I got a bit bored so sprayed it matt black this was when it was still setting

And I wired in an amplifier and subwoofer, I've never had one so thought I would give it a try, I'm missing the boot space already

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

So I'm still working on the turbo a little, I still need to make a few adjustments to the engine side of the manifold as the stud holes from the bravo manifold are slightly out :(

As for the turbo side, I have the turbo inlet flange ready for welding.

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

Cat is now sorted, just need a downpipe to the flexi for the outlet side, inlet is still in progress :)

Does anyone know what the difference is between petrol and diesel catalytic converters?

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

Hey that plastidip looks really great!

My bodywork is kind of shabby and I would be tempted to get plastidip done myself but I am not sure I really have the technical skills to pull it off. Was it expensive to get done at all?

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

The more coats you put on the better it looks hiding all the mistakes :), the best thing to do is not get too close when spraying as youll get shiny patches like what ive done on the bonnet (needs re-doing). Mine has about 6-7 coats, it gradually smoothes out and was good fun to do and see the difference between the panels.

It took just under 12 spray cans for the full car which was about £100.

I was going to get it done professionaly but that would cost £700 upwards so I'd say give it a go, its really forgiving to work with

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

I had some free time so I decided to test out my turbo with a real basic manifold, any ideas/suggestions are welcome

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

So I've made a bit more progress with the turbo, I've just finished mocking up a down pipe from the turbo to the flexi. I still need to weld on the bung for the two lambda sensors then the exhaust side is pretty much finished

20140310_173125.jpg

And I've finished off the fitting for the oil return back into the sump, I just sanded back the paint ready to weld on the nut for the fitting to screw into so I have the option to screw in a plug when I take the turbo off.

20140313_113642.jpg

20140313_120825.jpg

I used some high temperature paint on the exposed metal to hopefully stop the rust.

Next Ill be fitting the new sump and finishing off the exhaust then I can move onto fueling

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

A little bit more has been done now, the new sump is on and I went for a test run with the turbo after losing losing a lot of oil on the driveway because someone forgot to tighten a hose clip :bang:

The sump was damn awkward to get off, stupid bolt placement right behind a gearbox mount

20140328_160906.jpg
20140328_161121.jpg

And I've got the two lambda probes in place

20140401_180310.jpg

And here's a shot of the adapter for the oil line in case anyone is interested (just where the oil pressure sensor goes)

20140401_180345.jpg

And I went for a quick test run with the turbo in to see how it sounds

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

It's been a while since I had some time to play with the car but here's a few images of what I've been up to lately.

Just cleaning out the turbo, again. It doesn't really look to healthy (n)

That manifold I got on ebay is from a punto, I just cut off the the bits I didn't need and as I want to try running the turbo without a intercooler I wanted the compressor housing to face the top of the engine so had to re drill and tap new bolt holes for it to line up.

Since the air filter was sitting over the exhaust manifold I ordered a few bits to re-route it for now.

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

Had some time off recently so managed to finish the downpipe so now just need to test it for leaks, and I need to think where I can splice in a cat.

1433000349143.jpg

Had the turbo running today making about 2 psi of boost with the oil pressure on the turbo being around 15-20 psi.

1433000369354.jpg

1433000438615.jpg

The 2 psi was enough to cause this though
1433000645921.jpg
So... progress I guess

decent little project, are you running the stock MAP sensor???? if you are you will need a 3bar one instead.

Also, why you not running an intercooler??? they are a good idea, a very good idea.

Re: My 1.2 Stilo/Future Turbo Stilo

Yeah its the stock map sensor, I've been looking into getting a 2/3 bar one but no luck on this yet.

As for the intercooler I wanted to see if I could get away without one but I'm getting about 45°C intake temp at 2 psi, once I get a few more things sorted I'm going to see what the temps are at about 5/6psi
