Introduction

May I introduce our new family member.

I've always liked these, in fact it was on my short list when I was trying to decide which car to buy as my first many many years ago.

This one was in a classic car auction at Castle Combe race circuit yesterday. I'd been waiting weeks for it to come up and had sold/scrapped a couple of cars to make space for it.

When we arrived at the site I went straight over to check it out. It had looked good in the pics but that can be deceiving. Turned out to have a couple of blemishes but over all was just what I wanted. :D

It was for sale as the previous owner had died so they were selling as part of her estate. Yes it was a Lady owner, in fact the V5 shows her to be the only owner, having bought it from new. Mileage is still only 36,000 despite it being Forty one years old. This makes it eligible for free tax.

It had covered only five miles since passing its last mot two years ago and currently does not run. I'm hoping fresh fuel and a fully charged battery are all that will be needed to get it running. Play in one rear wheel bearing was the only advisory on the last mot and so I'm also hoping that it will pass a new one with little or no work.

Here it is arriving at it's new home..........

I will post some more pics when I get the chance.
What a beautiful car! Makes me want to sell everything I own and buy one! What's next on the list for it?

Yes he does seem to promote that kind of response in some people. I think it's something to do with sitting nicely between a real classic Ferrari and a 1:43rd scale model of one. ;)

There's not much to do to him really, other than maintain his current condition and enjoy him. Having said that I do have a couple of mods waiting in the wings (metaphorically speaking). I have a sports exhaust system, which does not fit due to the wide sump, so I need to modify it a little before fitting. Also I have a front spring locating plate that will drop the front suspension by about 25mm, this should even up the stance as it's a little nose high at the moment.

All the original parts, including the steel wheels and hub caps, will be kept safe so that he can easily be returned to original in the future.

Rosso had an outing three weeks ago, only in to town for our local car show, about a mile from home. There was a drive aroud the countryside first, in convoy, of about twenty miles though..........

This was at the meeting place before the drive in to town. Our Panda 4x4 (Oslo) went along too.

We had a great spot this year, right in the centre of things. Yes I know everyone has thier back to him, but it was a particularly nice motorbike. ;)

Finally got to fitting the sports exhaust recently, as well as new Monroe rear shock absorbers. The exhaust sounds sportier without adding anything to the performance :(, but the new shocks have made one hell of a difference, much more secure on the road. I have to say I've had good results on the Panda's too using Monroe shocks. (y)

I'm pleased with the look as well as the sound of the exhaust, not too in your face as I'd feared.

Last weekend we had a chance to try both improvements out when we went to a gathering at brooklands. Barbara was in Rosso this time, her first time driving since her operation, and I took the 3P........

Edit: Nearly forgot to mention the new 'period' number plates!

Yet another car show.

This time it was the Lancaster Insurance Classic Car Show at the NEC last weekend.

Rosso was part of the Fiat Motor Club UK stand. I wasn't sure about taking him as there are a few rust bubbles around the headlights, but most people seemed to appreciate the originality they represented, even had a couple of good offers but we're not ready to sell yet.

Here he is on the stand........

I was able to pick up two new wing mirror stems at the show, bonus. The originals had lost their tension and flapped around giving a different view depending on the speed. The new ones maintain the same view, which is great, but the mirrors have been mounted too far forward so the view is quite small. I think that when I eventually repair the rust around the headlights I may well fill in the holes and fit some door mirrors instead.
