Panda (Classic) Mk1 Panda 4x4 long term project

Introduction

So here's the car when I picked it up:

(same model/colour as Sam (@goodgirl156)'s, but that's currently where the similarities end!)

Had half an hour free this afternoon so started to have a look over, and clear out the minging interior. Plan is to strip out the interior to keep it safe from my inevitable welding fires, and to try and get rid of the smell! Always find it interesting cleaning out cars I've bought - highlight in this one is an invoice for animal feed (no surprise given the amount of hay in it). Lowlight is the evidence of mice..

Have had a go at a video but it's amateurish to say the least. Bit like the welding will be to start off with, but there's plenty of "opportunity" to improve both...

And in the 2 mile trip to the garage I observed:

2. Everyone was laughing at me (this included the garage mechanics, who kindly told me "Don't worry, it won't fail just on how it looks".

??? What's so funny - have they no respect for little grandmothers? It looks fantastic to me. Can't decide if I prefer the appearance underneath to on top. - I'll sit on the fence and say 'perfect combination'.(y)

Thanks everyone for your support/advice (and Andy B for the wheels!). VmanC, do you still have a spare steering wheel?

Steering wheel found and put to one side. (y)
I thought you were asking yourself if you had a spare steering wheel for a moment there...then I realised it was a quote :p

Not that I can talk, I've definitely had conversations with myself in the garage...

Long time no thread update...

Master cylinder refurbished (see separate thread). Shiny shiny wheels ready to fit (thanks to andypanda4x4 again who may recognise the ones I started with!).

Thanks to Si pandamonius_maximus for the tip off. (y) Electronic ignition fitted. Revolutionary - has started every time since.

PS I may need to tidy the wiring...

They're so good aren't they, hardly any wiring and such a big improvement. I've had mine for 3 years now and no problems :)

Just remember to keep the shoe on the points slightly lubricated as this is now the thing which wears out if not checked!

Getting ready for Staffordshire, and the next stage in the car's "progress". Finally managed to fit a replacement master cylinder. Just couldn't get the same type for love nor money (OK, could for a lot of money), so swapped to the more common Mk2 4x4 type. It's a tight fit against the bulkhead but it's in. Am looking forward to braking.

Also taking the opportunity to make the bumpers more presentable, refit mudflaps, change gearbox oil, try to get the darn thing to start like a proper car, etc etc...
