Punto (Mk1) My Sporting 1.2 16v in black

Introduction

I figured it was about time that I introduced you to my little project, she is a 1.2 16v Sporting in black and I am in love. As with all cars of this age she came with a few problems but I am progressively working through them as and when time and money will allow. So before I loose your interest with endless text take a little look at her just after I brought her (note I had given her a quick clean prior to these photos as she was filthy).

In fact this is a small example of the dirt.

So when I first picked her up (well within the first few months) I had some welding done and have under sealed the whole passenger underside, the drivers side doesn't really need welding and it would do if left a few years so I plan on doing it at some point in the near future and under sealing once its done.
I fitted a new lambda sensor and cat as emissions were reasonably high when she went for an MOT, she passed but it was touch and go and I wasn't convinced that I was getting the fuel economy I should have been. Since being fitted I get around 480 miles on a full tank instead of the 300 I was getting initially so I'm glad I made the decision.
Obviously she was given a very thorough service when she came under my ownership, I'm very glad I have half a clue as when I looked at the car the oil was barely showing on the bottom of the dipstick.. Straight home, fully serviced and treated to some lovely Castrol juice.

I also replaced the rear drivers trailing arm and it had excessive play, as I had it on stilts I also took the time to replace the section of brake hose connected to the drum as it had clearly seen better days. I also decided once finished that I should adjust the handbrake as it was taking around 5 clicks and I'm a stickler for a 3 click handbrake.

Since then I have just replaced/upgraded bits as they've gone, I recently fitted HID's when one of my bulbs died. (I know its naughty but they are very nice at night)

I also took the oppertunity to replace the sidelights with some nice white LED substitutes.

<-- Give them a little click to have a real look

I replaced the number plate bulbs as one was gone. In fact since the below photo I have changed them again for a brighter set as one died so I'll try to grab a little pick of them in action this evening.

That's pretty much all I've done to her over the 5 or 6 months that I've had her asides from cleaning the actual hell out of her.

She has some lacquer peel/car wash wounds of the top of the drivers door and a ding in the bonnet as someone has clearly shut it down with a tool on top of the engine.

There's also a rather nice door mark down the passenger door, otherwise she is in fairly good nick and under my ownership always gleaming. I will replace the damaged panels along our journey as I plan on having her around for many years to come, even if she's not my daily drive. I'll leave you now with a snap of how she stands now and as always I look forward to your comments.

Ok, coupe updates;

When I got in the car after work tonight she was hesitant, juddered a lot and really didn't sound good, I detoured to a friends house I know has tools only to find his van was at an MOT centre.. The car had cut out in me a few times whilst idling I had to try and do something about that back box.

We headed to his van and have pulled out all the back box internals I could

So it turns out that even when I test drive her, whilst she wasn't as bad she definitely didn't have a turbo..

Now she does :D <--- trust me that's a big arse smile!

Feeling much happier and now I've felt a smidge of turbo, am so excited to get the lump in the Punto.

I had hoped the local cat which hates me and always sits on my cars with muddy feet was in trouble.. Sadly the little git got me again last night so he's still alive :(

I'm so bad at posting updates! So yesterday (last week now :D)......

Basically new front disks and pads, sending me from these (stopped you so well as they'd rusted together).

To this.. Yes I realised the lack of copper grease and have since added lots :)

I wish I could have painted the centres and callipers but let's be real, it's temporary as I'll need the upgrade with the new engine!

I also obtained new buttons for the fogs and heated screen as that was an MOT failure.. I cut the holder as it had the vents in and I don't plan to replace them (save the weight and all).

Whilst all this was happening I had the battery on charge.. Only for a few hours so not a full charge.. Despite this though she started first turn of the key.. How long has she been sat for now?? 6 months minimum.. And people say Fiats are unreliable!

Bit of a belated update here;

I did manage to get the Punto through an MOT at long last, this was after;

- new rear trailing arm
- new rear brake line
- front disks and pads
- new cat & lamda
- 2 new front tyres
- new n/s front wishbone
and 8 hours welding...

just over £800 worth of actions there, I also have a new rear anti-rollbar that's sat in a box un fitted..

I've been driving her around for a while as a cheap alternative to the Coupe but I have to be honest and say that the Coupe has killed my Punto dreams and I think I'll be wasting any further money on the Coupe instead..

It's for that reason and with regret that the little Punto is up for grabs, be it as a whole of as parts, so if you know anybody send them my way.. I'm willing to let it go cheap as a whole to somebody who will keep her on the road.. has what 9/10 months MOT (I'll look the cert out if anyone is interested)..

Otherwise all parts are up for grabs.. I'll get some more pictures loaded as soon as it stops raining, a few recent ones will be posted below once I've uploaded them.

Couldn't get a nice pic of that wheel.. She still gleams though, must have 10ft of wax on her :)

well thats sad, although i totally understand. Can people please keep parts requests or making offers for the car to PMs though rather than posting here.

Suggest you stick an ad up in classified fella, see if someone will buy it as a whole first - be a shame for another mk1 to bite the dust if someone will take it and look after it, they are getting thin on the ground!

I know what you mean Blu, I don't want her to go but I have 3 cars and neither the money or time to look after her and now that sun is starting to show it's face she's not moved much..

I will knock something up on the classifieds tomorrow and get it up on relevant FB pages etc, better pictures, yada yada, just thought I'd get it out there for now..

Been there mate, wasn't that long ago i had far too many cars... I got rid of them cause of moving house and not having anywhere to store them all but it was kind of a revelation once they were mostly gone that I actually had time and money to spend on a car rather than 'fire fighting' trying to keep loads road worthy...
Before I moved i had the turbo seicento, the 16v cinquecento, an alfa 159, a punto GT and a mercedes CLK..
And really i say this like i am down to one but in reality i am still paying the finance on the alfa just don't have it here, my uncles using it. And i got the bravo HGT and my suzuki Ignis lol - I'm going in the right direction at least haha.

I did love Molly though, she was a beaut!

Same for me, fire fighting is a good description and whilst the Punto has been a real trooper that last bill really was the last one for me.. The Coupe is a better project with more potential and I'm getting older and don't need to be rolling around in a Punto. Plus my daughter in rinsing me so I don't have a much spare cash anymore.. I have to plan and save :(

Just had welding done and had been undersealed, advisory on mot for n/s door seal iirc.. Tbh though it failed the MOT about 6 times the guy openly admitted they were being harsh as it doesn't have rear seats or belts an they don't condone it.. I just did everything the failed it for each time so it's solid in my eyes.. It wants a little tlc but would be cracking for the track! That's why I brought my Coupe in the first place as I wanted the engine for this car.. It's got upgraded bulbs all round HIDs (they're properly set up and produce a wicked looking light pattern only ever been flashed once when I had them on the highest height..)

Front upper strut brace, new rear anti roll bar still boxed ready to fit. Always kept serviced and well looked after under my ownership.. Treated to the best. Just had new cat and lambda for mot, had new flexi pipe last year. Booth rear trailing arms replaced in my ownership and one of the front wishbones (iirc n/s).. Plus more.. The new disks and pads have only done 2/300 miles, same for the front tyres

But be under no illusion, it's not 100% mint, just well looked after in my care.. I'll try to lookout the mot cert and bill for parts tomorrow and take some better pics so you can see it as it is.
