Cinquecento Show Car Build

Introduction

Hi all!

After really enjoying reading other people's threads, I thought I might just have a crack at it myself! the aim will be to build a show car from my completely stock cinq sporting :)

I bought the car for mere peanuts! Though it has many niggles that reflect the price I paid, eg. Broken seat, needs service, no service history etc etc.......

So here we go!

On the way back from Manchester the car decided it preferred to run at 130 Celsius :bang: upon further inspection the rad was seriously past it, and the expansion cap wasn't doing its job of keeping the coolant in the system :( but these are cheap fixes and I fixed it all in the same day ;)

And here it is within an hour of getting it back (y)

New radiator (from a sei) new expansion cap (from a sei) and all new hoses (from a sei). Thank you seicento :D

Anyway I'll probably post every few days, hope its a decent read ;)

First thing I did to the car, (beside fix the overheating), Is fit seats that weren't broken (y)

In my opinion these look even better than the stock seats :)

In the future I'd like to have the seats and door cards re trimmed in diamond stitched red leather ;) but I can't mod until I've fixed the basics!

If the cap was letting pressure and steam out at 130 it was doing exactly what its meant to ;) releasing pressure before something goes pop...

time for compression test before you do anything else..

good luck with your project.

Okay well after deliberating on what fix to do next, I decided to improve the VERY POOR stock sound system. If you're going to do this yourself, generally you can pick up some 10cm speakers with a good name on them for £20 quid or less. I plumped for some 180w pioneer units for £16.99! Cheers amazon :D

It's pretty self explanatory just abit of wire stripping and soldering (the norm with ICE) it's probably one of the most cost effective mods ;)

For a guide on how to do this click:

It's mostly useful because it tells you the colour coding for + and - :p

Then I decided to carry on the audio mods and replace the very worn and boring head unit. I went for a Sony unit mainly because its cheap and I got a great deal! Quick tip: usually breakers take the stereos out of cars and sell them at ridiculously low prices even if they are nearly new! And if they are the universal box size. I got a 3 month old unit for £20! Mp3 input, all the settings, even lights up beautifully! I got the wiring converter with it, but luckily didn't need it. Here it is in the car:

Sorry for the poor camera :(

Well here's another picture of something broken, the radiator! Its clearly well past it, glad i replaced it. Its probably very rusty inside judging by the brown murk that runs through when i stick a garden hose in it and half the bloody fins are missing! :p Enjoy:

And quick question, does anyone know how to upload more than one picture per post?

UPDATE

Well its coming along at a fair pace! Ive got my abarth (replica) sideskirts ready to be put on, and ive sourced an abarth rear bumper & spoiler for it too! :D

The boot has had the lock, badges and wiper removed and smoothed over. Looks great! Sorry for the lack of pictures, but my camera is so poor that there really isnt any point :( ill borrow a camera soon to take pictures with.

The rocker cover gasket has been replaced, as well as the oil and filter, fuel filter, timing belt & water pump. So it has a clean bit of health :)

Ive sprayed the carpet black, as opposed to the grey it came as, not a big detail but a significant one.

Not sure how to go about taking the trim off of the doors and body panels (the plastic strip going down the side) and smoothing it, is it glued or?

That's all for now! :D
