Cinquecento Show Car Build

Introduction

Hi all!

After really enjoying reading other people's threads, I thought I might just have a crack at it myself! the aim will be to build a show car from my completely stock cinq sporting :)

I bought the car for mere peanuts! Though it has many niggles that reflect the price I paid, eg. Broken seat, needs service, no service history etc etc.......

So here we go!

On the way back from Manchester the car decided it preferred to run at 130 Celsius :bang: upon further inspection the rad was seriously past it, and the expansion cap wasn't doing its job of keeping the coolant in the system :( but these are cheap fixes and I fixed it all in the same day ;)

And here it is within an hour of getting it back (y)

New radiator (from a sei) new expansion cap (from a sei) and all new hoses (from a sei). Thank you seicento :D

Anyway I'll probably post every few days, hope its a decent read ;)

To be honest I was braced to pay a hell of a lot more, but it just wasn't what I expected! I'm actually with direct line, I was told by a mate a while ago they were pretty good, so after some shopping around, and some phone calls, I got that quote.

It was the call that made it cheap, the quote on their site was 1200. Also, it's registered as me with as main driver, with no additional drivers. My dad was on as an additional (we thought it'd make it cheaper) but actually taking him off made the difference!

What!!! I wish mine was that cheep at 17 ;) lol now go and enjoy it ;)

Thanks you, I will :)

I actually got stopped by the police for the first time yesterday (within 3 days of driving). They pulled me because to them it appeared as though I had nothing. No mot, no tax, no insurance. It got worse with the fact that I didn't have my licence on me

But after explaining to them that I'd done all 3 in one day, and that I do indeed have all the relevant documents, they were satisfied and let me on my way. They double checked their system, and it all came up :) I got the feeling they had better things to do!

I was scared s***less

A question for you guys!

Those who have done a rear disc conversion, how does the pedal feel afterwards? I'm thinking about fitting a Punto GT master cylinder and servo, but i'm not sure if it's a bolt on/off jobby. Surely with 4 calipers, the master cylinder that was built for 4 should be used?

:)

Your insurance is very cheap for a first time driver with all the modifications you have done to the car.

Master cylinders, its depending on how you like feel, total fluid in the system and effort to apply brakes. As fingers states, I'd forget it but for the moment, and if you font like how the pedal feels look at upgrading it

Update time :)

Went to stanford hall, my first event, but I had a great time! Met some great people, saw some great cars, awesome.

The car is a bit of a mish-mash at the minute, I'm trying to get it ready for the new engine to go in. Speaking of which....

It's a bit of an old-fashioned engine swap. What with all these 16v's and turbo's around ;)

Spec so far:

-SPI P60 engine rebuilt with new rings, new bearings and new seals.
-866 cam.
-Lightened and knife-edged crankshaft.
-3.2kg flywheel.
-40mm TB.
-Ported inlet manifold.
-3 angle seats.
-Recut valves, with a 60 degree backcut.
-Gas flowed inlet ports.
-Dexcraft induction kit (on the car atm, will go onto new engine).
-SS 4-2-1 manifold.
-Head skim to max.

There's probably more i've forgot. It's taken me ages to get it this far!

My normal bonnet is off having some work done (you'll see what I mean soon enough), so I had to get creative with the temporary one. It used to be black, but that's far too boring!

It gets some funny looks

Next up, a rear disc conversion is in the works.

I've also got poly inserts for all 3 engine mounts (yellow, so that'll be fun), rear trailing arm polybushes, 2 new front arms, polybushes for the front arms, new track rod ends, and some braided brake lines for the front :)

So yeah, a lot to be getting on with. Braided brake lines, front arms, track rod ends, and front polybushes will be going on this weekend, ill put some pics up when im done :D

And yeah, ive done 5k miles in this car now, in just over 2 months! (y)

It's been an utterly faithful and dependable companion, I love it :p

Wierd development this morning. I fitted a new map sensor last night, and now every time the car is at wide open throttle, the ecu (injector) light comes on? No I'll effects, and it goes away after a few seconds (like when you start it).

Strange, any ideas?

Ahh okay,I have a reasonable similar project and just wondered how others insured their modified ones :p
