Panda (Classic) 900 Dance 1992

Introduction

Panda's are definately breeding. I collected this from a forum member who had owned it for 13 years but was moving on to more sophisticated transport

I bought it blind after reading a posting saying it had to go. I assumed that I would be using it as a donor but that little bit of filler in the n/s rear arch is all the rust it has.

Even has the rear shelf although it seems to have seen some action over it's 20 yr lifetime.

I am addressing a few issues but it drives well and will be a lovely little car.

I mentioned earlier in the thread that I really like the dash fabric etc.
I think it'd go with Charmania really well, since I'm already trying to get hold of the red chequered Seicento Sporting Seats that you had previously tried out in her this would be a lovely match. The offer was obviously being a little silly because I very much doubt this car deserves to be broken for any of its parts.

Ah I see. Yes the red chequered seats would look good. (y) But have you seen the picture of the back seat in this one?

Yes, thats why I said possibly rear seat... I'm not sure it would go. It needs a bit of a clean too, but certainly the door cards and dash fabric would go great with the req Sei seats.
All speculation of course though, I doubt I'll ever find this fabric for sale.

You could always cover the back seat with the the material from the back seat of the Seicento. :)

Get it for me Vern...(y)

Ok Kev I've got it! Now can you clarify for me what exactly you want? ;)

Alik dropped this off with me, just before John turned up with the Selecta, so we had quite a gathering of Pandas yesterday. Scared the other residents on the site I think, they must believe I have some Panda based world domination plan. :p

Anyway, it's with me for a cosmetic spruce up before moving on to a new owner, so I will continue to chart progress here before it heads to the classifieds.

Pete has made a start on this one for me. The only rust on this little beauty is in the n/s/r wheel arch, front lower corner of the passenger door, and a little on the n/s A panel where the door must have opened too far against it.

So first job is the wheel arch. It had already been done badly by a prevoius owner ( not Alik ), and once the rust and filler had been cut out we were left with this......

To get the right contour I decided to cut the good wheel arch out of the donor Colour and use this as a repair panel. Pete cut both the inner and outer skins off in one piece then separated them from each other so that they could be welded onto the dance.

The inner skin went on first.....

Then the outer........

Both pieces had been trimmed down prior to fitting.

Pete's back for a couple of days this week so hope to have more updates very soon.

Incidently, this proved very popular last Sunday when the workshop was invaded by Panda campers! ;)

Time for an update on this one.

Rear wheel arch has had its top coat......

But the rest is still in a flat and grubby state........

I have made a start on bringing the paintwork up to scratch by cutting the bonnet, just so that I can get a taste of what's to come.......

I also took out the rear side windows, scrubbed up the seals and cut back the paint around the aperture before putting them back in. It's an area that always seems to trap alot of dirt and mildew that can't be shifted by the jetwash alone so the windows have to come out.

The interior smelt a little doggy :yuck: so I've removed the seats so that they can be washed properly, this also makes it easier to clean and inspect the rest of the interior. I could not find any rust anywhere! the rear seams are perfect, as is the rear seat belt mounts, in fact apart from the now repaired wheel arch and a little on the n/s door there is no rust on the car at all! :)
