Panda (Classic) 1989 Fiat Panda 1000S New Zealand

Introduction

Hi all,

Got told to up load my pics to here,

So here we go.

Got this last weekend as a fuel saver run about car.

Bought it because my first car was a Fiat Uno 60s, I wanted another but none were available then I saw this!

Paint code for those that may want to know...

I trial fitted the flares.

After

Front will need some work but not to much..

I wonder how much wider wheels I'll be able to run.. Probably 7's easy and 8's if I ever want to go to the effort.

I measured the distance from the wheel to the edge of the flare and it was about 7cm. So a bit of room to work with.

Not in a rush though as it's my daily fuel saver. So I'm just keeping my eye out on auctions.

Haha agreed. Still keeping an eye out for a mkii golf front lip.

Not going to make it look ****ty I promise.. :S

The side skirts will work too I think...

Have a look.

and

They are quite clearly for a 4 door haha so will probably chop and weld the middle.

I don't think I like the front. But if I find a spare panda bumper (unlikely), I'll merge them both together for you know.. Science.

:)

Ok so this morning I noticed my temp gauge and my fuel gauge drop off and not read at all while I am in traffic non the less :S

Then I noticed the indicators weren't working.

So when I got to work I checked the fuses and sure enough the indicator one had blown. So I replaced it with another 15 (hope thats correct) everything came back.

Now after work thinking everythings fixed I drive off.

Again everything goes back to reading zero (temp and fuel) and once again I can no longer indicate...

So I pull over, check the fuse. it's blown

I replace it with a 20 the yellow one and temp and fuel come back but indicators dont.

Now ive checked everything even put a new 15 back in and the indicators still dont' work neither inside or outside the vehicle.

Ekkkk what do I do?

I've had a quick search but haven't found any problems that relate to this one.

Help??
:S

I'm a novice when it comes to electrics but the one thing I do know is that bad earths lie at a lot of Panda problems. I'm not sure that bad earths would have caused the fuse to blow though:confused: It won't do you any harm to give the hedgehogs in the engine bay a good clean to start with if they are looking grubby.

I agree with cleaning the hedgehogs as a start point. If this doesn't cure the problem the next thing I would look for is a possible short in the indicator circuits, including the hazard warning switch and associated wiring.

This brings back memories, you didn't happen to mount a seat through the wiring? VmanC ;)

Part of me is starting to think about an overcharging alternator.
I understand all of the 'everything cutting out' and know that to be standard Panda (Italian Electrics) but the blown fuse is a challenge.
I guess you havent got a light fitting filled up with water.?

I noticed when I put the fuse back in the first time the passenger side little blinker didn't work but the rest did.

Now none of them work even on the hazard lights. Probably bad wiring somewhere! Will try find it this weekend. Kinda dangerous driving when you can't indicate!

Will also clean the hedge hogs!!

I found a grey wire that has been cut under the dash... (might be a speaker cable as I have none in there currently) but I also noticed a big thick red wires screwed into some metal under the dash as if it's a grounding wire but that too is cut... (again maybe left over from the stereo that was removed?)

:)

Another thing to note is, it only happend after I tooted the horn mutiple times at a driver who wasn't paying attention.

Karma maybe?

Oh yes and my horn is something different..

I didn't hook this up I promise.

Haha so maybe that also has something to do with the equation.

Will hopefully find out tomorrow.

Wish I had a garage!

I cleaned both hedgehog grounding things yesterday but still no luck. So I pulled apart the dash.

I found the grey wire with black stripe on it is from the horn wel were it used to be.

The red wire that's grounding also probably from that setup. So I taped up the ends a bit more tidily than I found them.

When I push the emergency light button (the triangle shape) nothing happens of course but under the dash at the fuse box the round cilinder type relay gets very hot. So I'm thinking it's probably that. It also has emergencia on it so probably related.

I'll go into a parts store today see if they have anything generic to try out.

If they don't I'll go to the scrappers and hopefully can grab something off another Fiat. Pitty they have no Panda's.

Mechanical flasher unit, you'd be best to upgrade to electonic (probably easier to get hold of also) (y)

Take your current one with you to your local motor factors to make sure the pin layout is the same on your replacement (y)
