Panda (Classic) Pickle the Panda.

Introduction

May I introduce my latest Panda, Pickle.

You may have seen him recently in the classifieds. He'd been sat in Matt's ( Matchbox) front garden for the last several months, but a new arrival prompted Matt to sell.

It's a 1995 1000clx with 42,000 miles on the clock. I'm sure Matt won't mind if I say it's currently a little scruffy. There is also no tax or mot left on him so this will have to be attended to.
I was attracted to Pickle simply because he looked to be a very nice late Panda under the surface. Matt had assured me that the only area of rust was on the bottom of the passenger door, and that the seats were in great condition. After checking around today I can confirm that Matt was dead right (y), the underneath is muddy, very muddy, but totally rust free.
Pickle also comes with a good service history, in fact he's the first Panda I've owned that still has it's handbook AND service book!

So the plan is to get him through the mot and give him a really good clean up, then see what we have. As he stands he looks very dull to my eyes, and I don't mean the faded paint, so all I want to do is throw alloy wheels and viper stripes at him :p. But I will resist until I have made him as nice and original as I possibly can, who knows, I may want to leave him just like that.

You know this idea of giving your car a name as if it were a person really didn't appeal to me at first, but now I try to do it if I can, it really helps to create the enthusiasm needed to look after it properly.
Pickle, by the way, was already named by Matt in view of his reg. no., I quite like it so the name will remain stuck.
That's a really nice example, one of the last of the line...

It would be a shame to "modify" it - I had a 1000 CLX in the nice turquoise colour and I always wanted to find those exact wheeltrims and side mouldings (like the earlier S model had).

never liked the roofbars on the last cars, but the best thing you could do is to find (if possible) the aftermarket Fiat bonnet grille cover (blacl plastic) - it made a huge difference in the look of the car.

The colour is lovely, quite like my favourite Triumph / Leyland Tahiti blue from the 70s...

I happen to have a couple of those bonnet scoops so I can test your suggestion. :)
I also have some five spoke alloys I can try once it's finished too. I will be posting pics of the various options, which includes keeping it original, then perhaps you could all help me decide how it ends up. (y)

Yes it is similar to Tahiti blue, just a little bit darker. I have a front spoiler from a Dolomite Sprint! :p

I'm sure Pickle will be a very happy little Panda once you're done. What other names have you given your cars? Do you have any more pics of them? ^_^

Hi ChrisVita, welcome to the Forum.

Where do I start! Yes there are loads of other pics and threads of my cars. Not sure of the easiest way to access them, will PM you when I've worked it out. (y)

Pickle should be very happy once done, hope to do a little more to him today.

Had a little more time for Pickle again today.

First off I tried a bonnet scoop out.............

The look didn't really grab me, but I'll try it again later when I can put him outside and stand back.

I also removed the door from the Panda Colour spares car. It had a couple of tiny bubbles starting at the bottom so I treated them and resprayed the whole bottom section of the door. The Colour door didn't have side mouldings so I had to drill and treat some holes for that too.........

Then it was waxoil time. What a mess this stuff makes, especially when the sprayer nozzle doesn't turn off when you let go of the trigger. :bang:
Anyway, I did finally get the stuff everywhere I wanted to, which was everywhere!

I usually use Bilt Hamber cavity wax as it's a better product, plus it comes in a 750ml aerosol with attachments so is much easier to apply, no standing in a bucket of hot water for half an hour (the waxoil not me). But I had this waxoil kit hanging around so thought I'd use it up once and for all.........

Now I can fit the new back bumper tomorrow, check the back brakes and thats the rear end finished. :)

Well I refitted the n/s side trims and new back bumper today so I was in a position to try my wheel options.

First we have have the originals with 155/70/13 tyres........

Then we have 13" alloys with 165/65/13 tyres.........

I know which I prefer, but what do you think?

I've always thought the exhaust a little puny on the Panda but these days they don't seem to make a trim that's less than 4" diameter. I don't want to change the exhaust note, just make it look smarter. Well recently I came across this trim, it's about 50mm I think and is exactly what I was looking for so I bought five, Charmania now has one and so does Pickle.........

I also spent half an hour today playing with some sheets of A4 paper. Here are the results for you to make up your own mind, I quite like the last one but not so sure about the other two. With those first two you need to imagine a white pinstripe all the way round them too................

Truth is someone has already expressed an interest in Pickle so ultimately it's thier choice, I'm sure they'll let me know. ;)

Edit: Ooops, meant to use this pic for the last one, better angle..........
