Grande Punto My Grey Grande (Italian Stallion) modified lowered

Introduction

I have had my car for over a year and a half now and have still not got round to creating a build thread!!! (Terrible I know!)

Here is what it looked like when I 1st got it :)

It wasn't long before I got some inspiration from the forum and decided to go with the carbon vinyl on the front bumper/ grill :)

I did vinyl the bottom part of the bumper as well underneath the lower grill but the cat pissed on it and it went grey :( lol

The next change that came along would be the blue interior footwell lights, pedals, punto stickers and new wheel trims. (sorry for the poor quality photo's!)

Very blue! lol (sunbed style!) :)

My pedals (They kept slipping off so I eventually got rid of them :( )

This is a photo of me and a friend in his modified civic (b16 EJ) very nice build and completely modified and very fast!
You can see my custom fiat badges on this photo (not well but...) I scraped the red off and painted them black with silver fiat lettering :)

I up-rated the suspension to Abarth springs which I was miss-informed on when I was told it would lower the car 40mm!!! the difference wasn't even noticeable! although the handling improved no-end!!!

I left my car like that for quite a while... Until... I vinyl'd the roof gloss black, tinted the side repeaters and got a black FK debadged grill. (I know it doesn't look nice in this photo but hey ho... it's on it's way to well... hopefully perfection :) p.s. excuse the scenery around my car... House is still being built so it's a building site :)

Yeah... :)

Anyway onwards!!!

My car has been like that for months until... Last Saturday! :)
I got a brilliant deal on my coilovers (FK Street AK) from Prolex UK and a set of 5 BMW E30 alloys which I refurbished with all center caps.

Old vs Refurb :)

All fitted to the car last saturday and it's looking good if I say so myself :)

The back :)

Still some arch gap!!! :)
463461_4043529722460_1490313512_o.jpg

Need to get the arches rolled or a camber kit as the wheels have some poke... Looks good but It means that the real have a chance of hitting the arch and shredding when I go over a large bump quickly!!! NOT GOOD!!!

The alloys are 15" original BBS and I think they look good. I have seen a post somewhere on here about people thinking that the grande is best suited to 16" or above and that 15" look bad... I disagree as In my opinion these 15's look nice :) what do you think?

Anyway... Back to the low's!!!

More low's

only 8cm clearance!!!

So what do you guy's think??? Any idea's on more mod's? I wanted to open the headlights to paint the inside black but after searching around I found out it's pretty much impossible unless you want to mess up your lights. I just can't take that risk! :(

So it will continue :)
Quick Update:

I'm thinking about removing the helper springs from the front to get the rear and front to match in height...

Problem being that I already scrape everywhere! (mostly on single track roads that I have already traveled 500 meters down before I find out i'm to low to go down there and have to spend half an hour backing up and trying to let cars get by at the same time!!! :( )

Anyway... to counter this scraping of the chassis I'm thinking of copying TJEToates and making a skid plate... It's stupid how much It scrapes and I hate the thought of what it might be doing to the underside of my car!!! :(

Absolutely smashed the rear end yesterday but all seems fine (will get it up on the ramp and see what we can do when the helper springs come out) (y)

I've had the joy of having a slammed car, and it is fun and I don't regret doing it, My gp now is lowered but not stupid low and it is allot easier but i still scrape in places D:

I don't regret lowering it as I love how it looks and the way it drives :) I have considered raising it but I'm in love with the low's! :D

Well that is the problem with being low! I couldn't do it I need my speed :D would love a second car slammed though haha but would have to have 2 cars, couldn't be without!

I would say the same but I want acceleration not just speed... Both speed and acceleration, one more than the other cannot be delivered by my 1.2 :) I'm lucky to be insured on a 2.0L tdi A3 aswell :)

"Mud flaps or no mud flaps" That is the question... I cleaned my car yesterday and after 5 minutes of driving it was just as dirty as before I cleaned it, Literally! Was wondering if mud flaps would look good lowered and also work to stop a lot of the dirt from ending up on the body of my car again :) (I'm not fully convinced myself about the looks) :)

I say with mudflaps. Simply because i want you to go by OEM Fiat ones and try and fit them....then tell me how the devil you do it. As i've had OEM ones for about 4 months now, i just can't get them on the car for the life of me! :bang:

I still need to have a look at mine haha, coloured the punto with a tyre pen and looks lovely! Should be fitting mine in thw next week, im holding off cause im putting my new alloys on at the same time, saves hassle.

As for your punto Cheltenham I like the colour ;) haha needs a more sporty look to it i reckon so the active kit would look good! You going for a euro look with those wheels?

Cheers :) As for a sporty look I'm going for a splitter at the front (cupra) and a spoiler, I just don't know when :(. The active sport kit is just the sideskirts right? I would like some :) Yeah I am trying to go for the euro look (might need more camber though :)

Let us know how the mud flaps go! (y)

Would set things off nicely, yeah active kit mine came with has the rear spoiler, side skirts and fogs, mind you you'd be about 3cm off the ground with the skirts on haha!

Yeah more camber and a nice shine on everything would set the euro look!

Shall do!(y)

3cm... I'd scrape on some grit... :)

I don't know whether you can buy the kit directly from fiat but I'm guessing it'd be much cheaper to buy it all separately on Ebay from an international seller :)

I'm looking at camber kits right now :)

FYI: The Cupra splitter, because of where you fit it, doesn't make the front of the car lower. You fit it towards the front end of the bumper where it rises, it just means the bottom of the front of the bumper will be as low as the rear part of the bumper.

Needs bigger wheels and smaller tyres, you mentioned 50 profile tyres, I run 40's on 17's and they are still too big.

With the black and silver theme, I'd tint the rear lights and get rid of the red pinstripe too. That way the car is pure silver and black.

If you're scared of splitting your lights to paint them, buy some abarth ones, already black but a bit pricey.

Spoiler would be nice, consider getting a Linea kit for it, they only come in gloss black ;)

Loads of potential there, keep going, it will get there.

Fair enough :) Makes the splitter much more viable! (y)

As for tire profile they would have been 65 (standard size) but a mate sold me his new 50's for £20 I wasn't going to fork out £300 or so for low profiles when my original 65's are all brand new aswell! :shakehead:

I'm not really setting the car on a colour theme just going for a euro look.
I have to say I don't really like tinted rear lights on the light coloured GP's, too dark for a light colour :( Also I don't much go for the linea kit either, especially on light coloured cars like ours. The Linea front splitter looks good but It's best on blue and orange GP's :)

I'm on a limited budget so won't be going for new wheels anytime soon. Personally I like the alloys and their size and got them for a very good price so will most likely stick with them until I sell the car :p

Oh and there is a deal on for both front and rear abarth lights for £199 but I can't really afford it right now :bang:

You might be able to tell a little that I got some ideas from your car :) (tinted side repeaters etc...) (y)

Quick update:

I sprayed my steering wheel controls silver last night... I'll add some pics later today or tomorrow :)

I'm still looking for other interior mods though :) It would be nice to be able to get some chrome/ stainless surrounds i.e. around the gear gaiter and around the dials but you can't get them from anywhere! The T-jet has some doesn't it? I'd need to find a breaking T-Jet I guess :(

Dashboard vinyl might be an option but it's a pain trying to get the dash out!!! :bang:

Anyway has anyone got any other ideas for little low cost mods?

The Plastic trim that surrounds the gear gaiter can be removed and sprayed also I have done this on mine with the same colour as steering wheel cover, center console, Fog light panel, window switches etc...

You could always get an Abarth speedo surround?

P.s I have a spare dash center trim for anyone who wants one to mod. Its the grey colored version ???? with no damage easy to cover in suede, leather or paint!

Already got rid mate, sorry. (it was on eBay for about 5 minutes:))
Honestly they are not that hard to get off at all!

All you need to do is remove head-unit, speedo surround and other items in the way of getting it off then just pull put off. Start at the passenger side as this is the easiest place to begin.
only thing I will say is be careful around the heater controls where the trim is very thin as this is were you will break it if your too rough.

You will need to glue it back in place though as when you get it off you will break the plastic welds on the back.

I used "JB cold weld" worked a treat (y)

ok mate i might give it a go when i have the balls to rip it off haha

I think you're right, 15's do work :) if the car's low enough.
Are you the guy that bought the abarth springs off me? If so I never said they lowered 40mm :p
Personally I don't like the stripes at the bottom or the wheels but it's a big improvement
I think vinlying spoiler would be a good idea... but you'd have to remember to do the top of the boot otherwise you'll have a piece between the spoiler and roof which is still grey :p
