Grande Punto Julietta - The Funky Blue 1.2

Introduction

Hey folks! :)

I've been lurking for a while and posting only recently as I am now the proud owner of a charming Italian whipper snapper in the form or a 2006 1.2 8V Grande Punto. Came with just 40,000 miles and has it's full service history, all keys, all logs and receipts, documentation and was NCT'd (MOT'd) just 50KM before I got her! She's just been treated to a full winter service and new gearbox seals as well. Below is a small photoshop of some plans, I just really love the Alfa wheels but they won't fit.

After chatting to another member 'Wisey' about what I've done to the car - I decided it would be best to create a thread to show my progress since I'm going to be doing a tonne of bits and bobs over the next 2-3 months. So far I have bought / done the following:

* Fitted Chrome 501 Indicator Bulbs
* Fit Custom Fit Grande Punto Mats
* Added Aux-In Cable for Blaupunkt
* Changed to White LED Interior Bulb
* Changed to White LED Boot Bulb
* Replace the Heater Controls Bulbs
* Taxed and Insured the Beast :p

I bought Error-Free LED's for the reg place and boot but the cough up the dashboard error so I'm getting load resistors soon as you'll see below. I also change the 501's to a white LED and they looked great but gradually reduce and go off so I have a full Xenon Kit coming soon. Shame, they looked great:

Coming to me in the next weeks is...

* Yatour SD / USB / Aux Virtual CD Changer
* 501 Canbus Error-Free 13 SMD LED's
* Load Resistors for said Canbus LED's
* 2 x Red Fiat Badges for Front and Back (in case I don't debadge).
* Full Xenon Headlight Kit for the Grande Punto
* 4 x White LED Strips for Footwells / Boot
* 2 x Antislip Phone / Keys Holders for Console
* 2 x Front Fog Lights for Grande Punto

And from Micks Garage because it's the best one for OEM looks and fitting:

* Black Fiat Adjustable Armrest (soon to be Aux-In housing)

And in the New Year...

* Coilovers / springs + 205/45/R17 Alloys
* Debaging the Boot (just "Punto")
* Debaged Front Grill (and maybe black reg vinyl)
* Carbon Effect or Spray Interior Dashboard
* Full Paint Polish and Wax (to remove a few scuffs)

Finally, going to try and custom make some sort of mold / mount at the useless cup holders to hold my phone:

Maybe integrated something like this?

Thanks for looking guys - I love this place already (y)

Nice mate tidy looking motor!
Cheers mate, I adore the bits off her. I got some great news from the mechanic today. He rang the previous garage regarding parts from the cabin air filter because the one I had was too big and it turns out to be the previous owners uncle who told me that in it's short life, it's been very well kept. Only has 45,000 miles and it has been serviced yearly, new rear axle, new steering rack (common fault), replacement wish bones and bearings all round - one less worry :)

Re: My Funky Blue 1.2 GP "Julietta"

Fitted the Xenon White Headlights last night, I am well impressed with the results and item quality (even if the battery side light was a fooker to get to) and all for €15 ;)

Lovely looking car. Those headlight bulbs you have in? Do they have much scatter? I'm looking to upgrade my bulbs but I'm considerate and don't want to blind other drivers (even though it seems that 50% of the population now want to blind me with theirs). Also why did you remove the savaged grill?

Thanks mate :) To be honest, they replicate the previous lights range and scatter pretty much spot on - except for the ice white beam ;) I did some long distance back road driving yesterday during foggy patches (and no road lights anywhere to be seen) and they performed excellently so I've very happy with them. Also, my friend drove past me in her car and said they just looked very white but not blinding (like everyone else lately - please turn off your beams!).

What savaged grill? I haven't removed anything yet, body is still stock. The second picture in my original post is just a bit of photoshop work I did whilst thinking of what to do. I won't be debadging it, instead I have the original red Fiat logos coming to me soon for front and back. Nice and classy!

nice headunit/stereo mate, where did u pick that up from? any pictures of it fitted?
Thanks mate! I got it off eBay, came from Germany and only took 5 days to get here.

Connects really easily into the back of the stock head unit and then you switch to the CD Changer (via the Source button on the steering wheel) and boom - you have music :) Works with a folder structure so you just call them CD1, CD2... etc. I only just fitted it so I will post some pictures and instructions soon!

As promised mate, here are the pictures of it. I did not realise how easy it was to chase / access (or uncatch) cables from the headunit from behind the glovebox - definately saved my hands a few times :) Here's the HU spec for my 2006 Blaupunkt:

4Z4KH.jpg
Initially, I used a standard Aux-In from here (with the yellow connector block, 2 x 3 rows) for my music but it sucked because I had no charge for my phone, no change song function or independant volume control so I changed up for a Yatour SD / USB / Aux-In Virtual CD Changer for €50 - found here :)

No real instructions required other than remove the HU, add connector block to CD Changer section (as in picture) and connect the two outgoing GND connections (male and female) into each other or to the chassis / metal casing (into each other is the easy option). If you don't do this, you will get lots of interference and noise every second of the song. Initially I could only access "CD Changer" from the steering wheel source button but now it works fine from the Aux button (switches between the two).

As you can see, it actually has an optional Bluetooth Adapter that connects into the back and works as a Handsfree or as wireless music streaming (A2DP) which I'm tempted to get now :D Pics of the setup (glovebox and floor is dirty! I blame the weather)...

On a side note of this lovely steering wheel controlled music (up to 16GB compatible, FAT32), I have cleaned my beauty and fitted the new 13 SMD LED's with the Resistors attached at the registration plate since the 5 SMD ones were too small and not enough "bulb glow". They are kinda sitting loose at present since the end connection doesn't fit into the reg plate light holder so I need to snip it off, add the resistor before the OEM connection and all will be snug.

Hope you guys like it :) I also have an interior and boot white LED's fitted but pictures don't show it up with my phone. OH, I just got 6 x 24 White LED strips delivered today for the footwells, under the seats and boot to be fitted soon - pics will come!

Re: My Funky Blue 1.2 GP "Julietta"

Looks good mate, il look into ordering one.

just out of curiosity are you fitting all these led light strips etc yourself?

Re: My Funky Blue 1.2 GP "Julietta"

Do mate, its the business and the clarity is excellent.

I am indeed, 2 will go in the boot (either side of the boot lid plastic bay) linked into the boot light and the remaining 4 will go to the foot wells and to the back of the front seats for the rear foot well glow. Those 4 will link directly the interior light because of the fade function and intergrated switch (there's a great guide in this site) it just doesn't include the rear lights but it just needs to be looped onto circuit.

Oh, speaker wire will be used for my circuit, thin and easy to hide behind carpet / rubber / plastics ;)

Re: My Funky Blue 1.2 GP "Julietta"

Debadged :D Hot water + ice scraper on the boot and rear doors and its done, such an improvement (my reg plate decided to be a sun last night as you can see).

No idea how get my front badge out safely to add the new red one (mmmm chrome) so I will leave it for another day with more light, heat and of course... patience!

Re: My Funky Blue 1.2 GP "Julietta"

Front grill needs to come out then I believe it's one bolt behind the badge to remove the front grill. Swap over then push grill back in.
Nice one bud! I'm thinking of getting the debadged one at the same time so I see how it looks and what I think of it. The red badge just sets it off, I seen an identical GP to mine today (hub caps in all :p ) but a 2008 model and it looked nice but we'll see!

Do you know, is it about 90mm for the rear badge?

I'm not sure on sizes pal but I do believe the rear badge is smaller than the front badge. And I love the debadged grill. If you take a look at my GP you can see my debadged grill and I also have a link In there somewhere for the red rear badge. I replaced mine because it was looking tatty. But I know a lot of the guys who had original blue badges have changed them to red so it's very possible. I also went one further with my rear badge and plasti-dipped the outside of the badge to make the chrome Black to match my car. See below.

Ah that is sweet looking and unique man - nicely done! :)

Where did you get a replacement badge? I've seen them on eBay but for about £20 and that's double what I paid for the front one. Cheers!
