That's a shame man! Where'd you get your Stilo towed to? Get the fault code(s) read ASAP it may be something as simple as a spark plug or ignition coil seeing as your car's went into limp mode

Got towed to the mechanic whose workshop is a 2 minute walk from my front door!

I think it is something simple, the car was fine other than the fact it was crawling, the engine sounded fine, idled and revved properly. The man who picked me up thought it was a problem with the throttle.

EDIT: Need to source a new throttle body, our mechanic thinks this should solve the problem but with no guarantee! FIAT are asking silly money for the part though

oh - that sounds familiar :(

About a week ago, I went to see a Stilo 1.6 with identical symptoms. The throttle body had been taken apart and tested (measured) with no fault found. The auto electricians had measured a very low voltage across the throttle body motor (two pins of the plug). I agreed with them that this voltage (0.5V) wasn't enough to operate the motor. We decided the ECU was likely to be faulty - so we have sent it to these people:
http://www.ecutesting.com/catalogue/product/fiat_stilo_ecu_engine_management_eem180527.html

Note that they test the ECU and if found not-faulty, the cost for the testing is a reasonable £45. If faulty, they will repair for under £200. That seemed a good option to me compared to the costs of a second-hand ECU (which also needs the body computer/key chips to be replaced) - and these ECU faults seem common, so a second-hand unit would be risky.

Good luck - hope it is 'just' the throttle body, but if not, well, let's keep in touch and see how it works out.

You could try the throttle re-learn but it might be a long shot?

There was a thread I'd read a while back about voltage issues at the throttle body, from what I remember the +v to the throttle body is shared with another component in the engine bay but I can't remember, it be worth trying to dig that thread out, I'll try and see if I can find it...

EDIT: Deckchair5 outlines what should be checked in this thread: https://www.fiatforum.com/stilo/243423-p1220-series-throttle-control-malfunction.html

It looks like I'll be heading off to Uni this october, and I have decided that an estate car will suit my needs far better than my hatchback! It's been a fun ride with the stilo but it looks like it's time to say goodbye.

It will be in the classified section soon, and any FF member who buys it gets free cake (no joke) (y)

-Kayak Carrying Ability
-Beer Carrying Ability
-Sleep-in-the-back-if-desperate-ability
-Suits my bearded lifestyle (y)

My dad has offered to buy the car off me as a weekend runabout, so I may well take him up on the offer and keep putting some money into the Stilo! Win Win

I've been working my beard off at my new job (tesco driver!) And I have got enough dollar for my new car plus enough for Coilovers for the Stilo. (Not enough for the extra insurance though! Coilies should be bought, fitted and insured by the first week of september.

I am also exploring the possibility of Turbocharging the Stilo! I am lucky to have a very skilled mechanic less than a minute away and he agreed If i provide the parts he will help me fit a turbo for free! :D Time to save up!

Also I found a splitter in a hedge. Now to see if it will fit my bumper
