Punto (Mk1) Work in Progress...

Introduction

When i first bought the Punto s 60 before work begun it was plain white as you can see,
314015_263000770481284_675395348_n.jpg

I then went on to giving the car a "ratted" look by primerring the bonnet and sloping the number plate, but then found out it looked to tacky.. i removed rear windows to clear around the rubber seals where there had been mold growing and all clumps of dirt,
376705_266670873447607_1862422885_n.jpg

i took the bonnet off again and sanded the primer so it was smoother and then thought, "ahh peoples been painting there cars with rollers" so id give the Punto a better look and paint the bonnet matte black, with emulsion paint!! firstly filling the bonnet badge and sanding it smooth.
283861_270360743078620_1928088637_n.jpg

finished sanding the filler smooth as i could then i started to roll! but also removed the washer jets which i didnt do when primering :bang: CLOGGED JETS
394488_270756536372374_1294261651_n.jpg

half way through i forgot i had masking tape on the bonnet so its going to end up having a primerd stripe down the bloody thing, ahwell be a one of a kind also it would go with the jets (y)
319388_270787036369324_493743956_n.jpg

i thought it actually looked alright when i removed the tape :) but the filler is still noticeable ahwel what the heck! its a project nothing to worry about maybe having to lacquer the paint after though as it is only emulsion paint for walls so will have to protect it,

Fitted the bonnet back on to the car and it looks quite nice in my opinion :D also fitted a black sun strip for £10 from halfords but sadly im going to have to down size my wipers or the arms!!

[AIR FILTER]
i thought the Punto needed a new filter, so i got one off amazon for.... £8.75 better than paying £26 from hellfrauds!!!
540250_267971666650861_1078064683_n.jpg

Loook at the bloody size of it!
time to fit it in the engine bay, firstly i removed the old paper filter out of the airbox and had to cut the air-intake pipe to place it on the end its a tight fit but its in had to cut it down alot and repair and tape it to strengthen it.

Its in! :slayer:
217651_268099096638118_1030722563_n.jpg

Also added a black tail pipe so that it stuck out abit more and gave the car a better look and sloped the rear number plate
539029_264448203669874_1413589046_n.jpg

got a bit childish with the Punto_s badge.. aha no body moan but i thought it was funny most likely going to get a warning about this (n) also added stickers under it to underline the badge and added a GHIA Badge
DSC00103.jpg

oh also wired in some house speakers in the boot no need for a subwoofer or amp im happy with how it is,

(UPDATES TO COME WHEN MORE WORK HAPPENS)
right i have now sorted out the bodged bonnet recess with the time ive had on my hands i have sanded it smooth and filled it again smoothed it and wet sanded it looks much smoother

406106_103935116451944_1160353799_n.jpg

i have actually bought some blackboard paint

598371_310909715690389_1433804607_n.jpg

this was only a few quid off of the net and it covers quite well even though there's a few lumbs n bumps.
but i dont mind as it goes towards the ratted effect, when ive painted it, it had a reaction due to painting straight onto bare metal but its only slight reaction nothing a bit of wet sanding primer and another paint wont fix..

484065_103938469784942_1455226081_n.jpg

263375_103936509785138_474652005_n.jpg

looks much better back on the car as well

418019_324796490968378_750858832_n.jpg

as you can see it looks a lot more smoother and not like a bodge job like it was before hand, also i have done slight sticker bombing i know it looks rather rubbish but i'm not really fussed about it.

481383_326704720777555_1643296263_n.jpg

and have actually bodged a parcel shelf for the car from a rover 100 with slight cutting to shape it kind of fits in place and it works for its purpose, the parcel shelf had some little speakers cut into place so i though id wire them up as well :)

538649_324695790978448_399089498_n.jpg

looking into buying a rev counter "tachometer" for the car as there isn't a rev counter on this car
As i would like to see what its idling at and it going through different revs.. sum'ed up a price to around about £37 for one like the one shown below

Rev counter.jpg

also what would the easiest way to wire one of these in? i heard people wire them to the ECU but i don't fancy mucking the car up

551469_127308210781301_1365176601_n.jpg

wayhey ordered the gauge housing
and this is what it looks like when its put together..

mounted the housing on to the pillar by melting a hole in to it and bolting it on
then having to angle the housing

47773_127328747445914_1286553291_n.jpg

tried to fit the pillar back in and it wouldnt go.. god sake!
so i had to trim it down!

62509_127626780749444_630940665_n.jpg

and then it fitted back into place! all good.

485322_127632034082252_403512693_n.jpg

looking good and thats just a temp fitting, then i ordered the tachometer
also had to find a area to feed the wire though the dash

581336_130068643838591_408751809_n.jpg

which you can slightly see in this photo of the red thick cable going through
the tachometer housing and down the dash and out the bottom..

gauge arrived

539713_130020147176774_2123183160_n.jpg

slotted straight into the housing and then tightened the pitch bolt

420313_130116693833786_555167375_n.jpg

put another hole in the pillar to feed the cables through then down the dash

35513_130145837164205_1755535200_n.jpg521523_130145703830885_1984302474_n.jpg

also put blue leccy tape round the wire to neaten it up a tad, its getting there.

also been reading up on wiring and i have to wire into the ignition barrel
so i have placed a connection block on to the tachometers wires

58408_130870027091786_618321605_n.jpg

Green - tachometer reading
Red - Live ignition feed (12v)
Black - Negative or ground

so the Red wire has to go to the ignition block onto the blue and yellow wire

19693_130444053801050_2132576524_n.jpg

also going with the hazard tape theme i decided to tape the steering column case in it.

419304_130444000467722_1764231518_n.jpg

will update with the wiring once i have got
some extra wire and have plumbed it all in :D

little update if have now sticker bombed the pillar with the gauge on

58874_131240320388090_1455388609_n.jpg

i kind of like it :D may do that to the other one aswell but not to sure as id
have to cut it to get the pillar back in place

anyways updates to come soon...ish

i fitted the sticker bombed pillar back in (y)
does look quite smart IMO

554931_131376000374522_1663116046_n.jpg

also i found some tow rope and wrapped it around the lower vents of my bumper
to slightly add to the ratted effect or what nots.

285284_131270353718420_1462641964_n.jpg 482469_131270563718399_552549842_n.jpg

plates back on aswell :)

hopefully i have found the correct wire in the ECU loom for the Tachometer.
as its stated that is a full blue wire, which in this case this one is and it was in the center of the loom :bang: bloody wires!

528230_131375993707856_471998197_n.jpg

now i have to find a away of putting all the wires through and im not going to the firewall or what ever you'd like to call it.. im sicking to my wings :D

how my shed of an interior looks like for now

522583_131298970382225_1135487380_n.jpg

right then some wiring, i have used speaker wire for the ignition and the ground

559757_131762037002585_356546460_n.jpg 528173_131810280331094_1822570758_n.jpg
- Ignition - and then - Ground -
32141_131810250331097_1968147232_n.jpg 29019_131762053669250_781726463_n.jpg

close up on the connector
all leading into the fuse box as that's where the connector is,
also i have zip tied the wire to neaten it up a bit behind the column

64141_131762540335868_1482365327_n.jpg

column case is now back on and can no longer see the wires

my order of wire has came this morning,

601378_132087293636726_568620809_n.jpg

not bad for £4.50 but its very weak so it snaps easily if you fiddle with it to much..

1802_132108740301248_1614333957_n.jpg 48083_132108706967918_157670702_n.jpg

little shots of the wiring going through the wing the same
as i did with the sub woofer power line on the passengers side

wrapped it into the blue wire that ive shown above then re-taped and covered over

306160_132125876966201_1761342047_n.jpg

then ran it behind the ECU and the zip tied to the headlights wiring to
make it neater

522694_132125926966196_318191368_n.jpg

and hey presto it turns on with the ignition, i shall try the revs tonight then i start it :D hopefully it works or i'm going to be quite annoyed :bang:

581885_132108570301265_1384545489_n.jpg

Shall update later! :)

How dare you call my car a shed.

As i've stated before its a project and its going towards a "rat effect" in my opinion..
If I wanted to I could save up a few hundred then plaster the sodding thing in alloys, fresh re-spray and what nots.. But I'm not going to bother.

Its a project to take the mick really but also with it the limits of going over the top, each to there own opinion..

Cheers for viewing.

RIGHT!!

update time.

i have rewired the tach line into the rev counter using thicker wire
which doesn't snap easily

1.jpg

i ordered a set of seat covers for the car as the interior covers are messy
then i easily fitted them tying the strings on them and then fitting snug.

2.jpg 3.jpg

i have also added to the "sticker bomb effect" on the inside of the car
by bombing the drivers side speaker as that no longer works (wire error some where) and also the back of the rear view mirror

4.jpg 5.jpg

due to the stickers not being water proof i have removed the ones on the hatchback, so there isn't any that will get water damaged.

6.jpg

also i have added a few new stickers even ones for people who dis-like
my car,

7.jpg

also "unmarked police car" on the rear side windows

8.jpg 9.jpg

i was going to tint the rear lights with a tinting kit due to it being very rubbish
it ripped when i was applying, so i used it for the front and side indicators

12a.jpg 12.jpg

it blends in with the wings now :)

meet my new car friend!!

20.jpg

was thinking of bringing the exhaust more forwards but that would mean id have to either weld a pipe on to it or add a 3rd clamp :bang:

BONNET

i got bored with it and was going to rust it but due to lack of funds and buying extra panels i just went and painted it..

10.jpg 11.jpg

doing like a slight rat theme with the checks on the front as i have said was going to rust so i was having the bonnet checks to act as a flame but it wasnt happening so i straight cut it and painted it,

13.jpg 14.jpg

i have painted it in hammerite red oxide primer, i do not like hammerite IMO
its tacky and takes ages to dry! had to chose this due to halfrauds no longer making the red oxide spray primer (n)

15.jpg

stuck it back on the car when it started to slightly dry
then i left it to dry for 2 days, it finally set.. sodding cold weather didn't help

16.jpg

its now dry (y) about time!
but it looked to plain so i created a "rubbish" skull stencil and dabbed a sponge into my blackboard paint and dabbed in on also outlining the top of the checks

19.jpg

waited for this to dry then i looked at my sun strip, realized some how there was a rip in it :bang:
so i removed it and brought out the hazard tape and made a sun strip and side barriers out of that!

17.jpg 18.jpg

yes i realize it does look totally rubbish but hey i'm not fussed..
its meant too!

21.jpg

Found this really fitting :D

i like your idea about the red steelies actually bit like a space saver red or tool box red something a long them lines and about the lows i think ive said before if i did lower it the car it wouldn't get back up the drive as it just about comes down without ripping the front bumper off :D awkward drive way you see

Last edited:
thought has past my mind of parking it outside...

but id have to insure it due to my look ill get it broken into before i start driving, plus it'll cost me an arm n a leg to insure this car

been quoted online compare site around about £3,800 :(

also if i lowered it i wouldn't get it back in the garage to work on it in a dry area

If you can find a scrappy with a decent supply of mk1s then get yourself 4 'space savers' which are not only red but are exactly the same size and type as the stock wheels on a 60s so you can just swap the tyres over. Also will only have ever been used for short times so no rot usually.

right.. quick update,

i would get 3 space savers but if you haven't noticed i have 2 standard Punto s60 steels on the car on the front " as well as a space saver in the boot and a spare black rim kicking about" then i have a set of mk 2 steels on the back, which are higher and wider,

549069_146845542160901_1247258728_n.jpg

have also added tint on the rear lights as i found out that they have cracks at the top i'm aware it looks rubbish but it keeps it sealed.

I'm Still toying with the idea whether to paint or not as i think the black ones look nice on the car :)

since i have put seat covers on the seats i have unbolted the seats

1.jpg

so i could hoover up all the rubbish from the old owner,

finding very strange items in the car... all over to be honest.. Roll of kitchen roll in the inner arch, roll of foil in the other arch, and 3 different "roll ups" hidden inside the car under the hand brake gaiter inside steering column and under the back seat.. Straaaange!

2.jpg

anyways, the seats are out i have now fitted them better so that the plastics are on show the head rest inserts have been valcro'ed together and fits nicely, only problem is the seat release but im not cutting the covers so it'll have to do.

i have been doing some more painting on the car touching up on the wings inside the engine bay as shown..

3.jpg 4.jpg

looks much neater and now there isn't a white line when the bonnet is closed so it looks more flush.. also have moved the air filter straight onto the air box.. probably not a clever idea as it may draw hot/warm air into filter

found a visitors only sign sat in my garage so i thought id put that on the car as well

5.jpg

Right i've had an idea about making a roof rack.. if any ones seen "the wrong uns ratted Punto" forum on Ratlook the type of roof rack what he made is the type im thinking of making.. using metal box tubing and wooden slats. then bolting it through the roof, using silicone sealant to water tight it...

Then plonk some stuff on it to go with the ratted effect , having a spare wheel kicking about i decided to sand paint and muck around with it, ended up having a chrome looking lip, a red hub and a white wall but its more of a pinky colour..

6.jpg

and yes the white wall is painted on.. so when i decide to make my roof rack that can be the first thing to get thrown on to it (y)

cheers..
cars going under some work changing colour ect,
but doing abit of prep work first e.g primer n sanding imperfections out, trying to knock dents out, cleaning rust and curing it..
screwing splitters on to it changing the look of it probably something "fiat fans" wont like :)
