Punto (Mk1) Work in Progress...

Introduction

When i first bought the Punto s 60 before work begun it was plain white as you can see,
314015_263000770481284_675395348_n.jpg

I then went on to giving the car a "ratted" look by primerring the bonnet and sloping the number plate, but then found out it looked to tacky.. i removed rear windows to clear around the rubber seals where there had been mold growing and all clumps of dirt,

i took the bonnet off again and sanded the primer so it was smoother and then thought, "ahh peoples been painting there cars with rollers" so id give the Punto a better look and paint the bonnet matte black, with emulsion paint!! firstly filling the bonnet badge and sanding it smooth.

finished sanding the filler smooth as i could then i started to roll! but also removed the washer jets which i didnt do when primering :bang: CLOGGED JETS

half way through i forgot i had masking tape on the bonnet so its going to end up having a primerd stripe down the bloody thing, ahwell be a one of a kind also it would go with the jets (y)

i thought it actually looked alright when i removed the tape :) but the filler is still noticeable ahwel what the heck! its a project nothing to worry about maybe having to lacquer the paint after though as it is only emulsion paint for walls so will have to protect it,

Fitted the bonnet back on to the car and it looks quite nice in my opinion :D also fitted a black sun strip for £10 from halfords but sadly im going to have to down size my wipers or the arms!!

[AIR FILTER]
i thought the Punto needed a new filter, so i got one off amazon for.... £8.75 better than paying £26 from hellfrauds!!!

Loook at the bloody size of it!
time to fit it in the engine bay, firstly i removed the old paper filter out of the airbox and had to cut the air-intake pipe to place it on the end its a tight fit but its in had to cut it down alot and repair and tape it to strengthen it.

Its in! :slayer:

Also added a black tail pipe so that it stuck out abit more and gave the car a better look and sloped the rear number plate

got a bit childish with the Punto_s badge.. aha no body moan but i thought it was funny most likely going to get a warning about this (n) also added stickers under it to underline the badge and added a GHIA Badge

oh also wired in some house speakers in the boot no need for a subwoofer or amp im happy with how it is,

(UPDATES TO COME WHEN MORE WORK HAPPENS)
i not keen on 6x9's and they are defo not needed at all if you have a proper sub. Just get some decent component speakers. And fit them in the sides under the rear side windows, they will sound better there as well as the bass from the boot will effect them in the shelf. Could never understand this sticking silly 6x9s in parcel shelves myself. I've also found in fiats the plastic bits that hold the parcel shelf aren't really strong enough to hold a wooden/mdf shelf and speakers and they just start drooping.

Thats my 2pence worth.

Youve done a good job with the rollering! Needs some serious lows now ;)
i would love to lower my punto but the drive at my house is ridiculous its steep hill down to a flat drive it would end up ripping it apart sadly, it just about fits down on its standard springs thats how bad the drive is

Cheers for the information blu,

never thought of putting the speakers in to the rear door cards like you said that is a very good idea to be honest,

i was thinking when making the parcel shelf, to use 2cm / 20mm thick mdf wood, then carpet it in the speaker box carpet fabric, would that be alright on the puntos rear plastics? or this there anyway of strengthening them so they dont drop to snap?

also thinking weather to try make it pivot like a normal shelf or just try bolt it down?
whats your opinion on that?

i never tried them on the punto tbh, but the cento ones almost snapped when i had a stealth shelf. My GT has 6x9's on the rear shelf from previous owner and tbh its fine as is; sounds fine and they aren't too heavy for the shelf at all. But perhaps if you got a good parcel shelf you should not cut it up...?

But the whole point of 6x9s is to make bass when you don't have a sub... As you have got a sub some components will provide a much crisper mid and high range sound. All the bass can be handled by the sub.

im not going to bother with the 6x9s now, as i can see you point.

i havent got a parcel shelf at this current time but theres one on ebay for about £25 with postage, then im going to leave it whole i agree with you that the sub will be good enough on its own no need for the parcel speakers at all, and also if i cut the parcel shelf that would weaken it, so i would leave it be :)

many thanks for your input Blu, very helpful

do you reckon it is possible to move the rear speaker cables which sit by the sides of the parcel shelf under the plastics, to the rear seat doorcards either hidden behind it or some out mould it into the door cards?

just wondering thats all, i might just leave them where they are, i have removed the normal factory fitted punto rear speakers and replaced them with Peugeot 406 rear speakers as they are a tad larger..

i have picked up a new back box for the punto only for £10 cant grumble at that (y)

quite big to be honest but its going on,
bought a clamp for it off of amazon to clamp it down to the pipe work

61422_302345176546843_1012691258_n.jpg

hopefully it will just fit after ive chopped off the back box :/
:worship:

i see that my original back box has been rubbing on the brake line behind it so i thought id upgrade it but seem to be having problems taking the exhaust system off, as its connected to the centre pipe and cat, where the clamp is.. its rusted and seems to have bonded together so im thinking about taking it off at the cat then dropping it all off then fitting it... hmm not sure any advice?!

575090_303813736399987_1153489576_n.jpg

any who the arse end is up in the air waiting for me to tinker about and try to get the darn thing off...

if anyones got advice about the mk1 punto systems pleaaase comment! its doing my nut in :bang::bang:

to be honest the end of it looks alright its not like a straight circular 6" / 8" or whatever its a squidged tail pipe (kinda like duck lips) which is slightly on a slant which in my opinion looks alright

Right got the exhaust system off completely

295758_304527336328627_1538942731_n.jpg

dropped it of from the bottom of the manifold then took it off all its rubber hangers,
easy job to do.. also un-cliped the sensors electrical wires from the main connection so i didnt have to fiddle about with it.

65340_304510892996938_435444750_n.jpg

its off!
time to chop off the back box with a hack saw,

... as there was a massive ass hole in it.

402435_304510212997006_1184995685_n.jpg

14428_304510516330309_1995480046_n.jpg

bough a reducer for the back box , 45mm To 48mm To 52mm..

536727_304772216304139_820294206_n.jpg

on back box

536617_305187929595901_1499940315_n.jpg

looks alright i think :D near enough ready for it to go on,
had to cut 8 slits in the reducer so it can clamp better to the old pipe, using a 45mm clamp..
i have made a hanger using "Hose clamps" to position it into place (y)

482940_305168749597819_972068104_n.jpg

8756_305168959597798_566621834_n.jpg

as i have noticed when i put the whole system back on...
there was no gasket on the top of my down pipe...

 wtf!!
so i have now got one on order for it so then it wont be blowing anymore.

Update..

here is some pictures of the hose clamp hangers.. :)

603912_305523976228963_1942170684_n.jpg

does its job and holds the exhaust tight and doesn't really wobble

207443_305524119562282_2104838081_n.jpg

i have a hose clamp hanging from the rubber hanger
and then two hose clamps around the barrel of the back box (y)

had to redo the back box bought a different clamp
for it which was a heavy duty one 45mm, which had 17mm nuts instead of 13mm
took the system back off again

305671_306037979510896_171534078_n.jpg

Hammered and clamped the back box to the system making sure all the reducer is tapped on to the system...

had to take the rear bumper off as the back box was going to catch on it when i clamp it back in place,

31010_306099792838048_2146911643_n.jpg

slightly dirty behind it and its white ahwell
cant see that when the bumpers on. :yum:

cleaned up the back end with a rag and took a close up of the back box well the tail pipe,

30339_306099719504722_905359439_n.jpg

looks alright, beens i had to take the bumper off,
meant i had to cut a hole in it for the bumper to sit back on and allow the fumes from the exhaust to go out...

69473_306089382839089_683735760_n.jpg

as you can see from the pic the exhaust is hidden by the bumper :D
so it dont stand out as much

thanks blu,
thought it might look better on.. its not one of the large bores you get like 4" , 6" or whatever floats the boat like a open tin can, i think it looks smart but it does stick behind the bumper alot so you cant see it when you stand behind it which IMO is better so it doesnt stand out :)

Havent got a clue if this videos going to work but ill give it a shot.
started the punto after i fitted a new gasket on the down pipe and sealed it,
the car seems to have a fault since i bought it as the revs were high, then i altered them slightly now it increases its revs as shown at the end of the clip

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZVER7hMlNmQ&feature=youtu.be

by the way what do you think of the sound of it :D

yes the idle speed seems to climb all on its own,

like after i have pressed the accelerator as in the video i did it twice one after each other, and the idle speed sounds like it climbs..

If u can hear it near the end of the video it seems to rise, i cant say it shows on the rev gauge as i haven't got one but you can hear it

Sorry i haven't been on here been doing other things,

i have had the bonnet smoothing redone,
and will upload a picture of that soon

i bought some "chalkboard" paint for the car so after the new year it can be repainted and be chalked :)

hopefully sticking it through an MoT, starting of next year so i can see what it Fails on,
well what it passes on too. i still haven't got round to doing the hand brake or the revs but will do them when i get the time and the tools,

i will upload some photos soon of the car with its smoothed bonnet and the bonnet and wings being painted in chalk paint (y)
