Grande Punto My 1.9 MJet GPS

Introduction

Long overdue I know, but after MITCar and noticing everyone else has a build thread heres mine.

Here she stood, all standard as of June 2011.

First things first, new Forge underbody braces. The once front heavy and understeered 1.9 now feels a lot less boggy in corners.

Got hold of some CF vinyl and went about modding the front and rear badges. Pretty simple to do, and a bit different from those that have repainted it.

I also covered the silver trim (passenger dash strip, driver dash strip, around gear gaiter, steering wheel controls etc) with the CF and clear lacquered it to look less fake. Pics to follow.

Got hold of some 20mm hubcentric spacers for the rear, courtesy of Mayatt, fill the tracking now and feels a lot more planted. At the same time I had all 4 tyres replaced with Maxxis MAZ1 215/40/R17's. Great tyres and I opted for a slightly wider tyre to standard 205's as I was dropping profile but also for rim protection.

Spurred on by Wisey's new gear stick gaiter I decided to mod my current one to save some pennies. Took a while as stitching isn't my strongest point but I think it turned out pretty well?

Last things last, got hold of some Plastidip in black. Went about painting my upper grill with it (from the silver tinted look to matte black to match the lower) and also did all 4 wheels. It looks good, but i'm not totally happy with it so may redo it at some point.

Little things that don't need pics, had new bulbs all round and also put red LED's into the footwells following guides on here.

So without compromising anything (ride quality, looks, performance) i'm pretty happy with how she is at the moment. That being said.....

Future Mods.....
- BMC panel filter (on order at the moment)
- Paint engine cover
- Possibly go lower at some point
- Remap or tuning box

Hope you all liked her at MITCar, you guys gave me some ideas too but all comments and feedback welcome!

Loved seeing yours in the flesh at MITCar :) I've got a random photo to include at the end of this post aswell :) Only a shot of your rears spaced, which i loved!

Love the Carbon Fibre in the badges, subtle and sleek.

I'll be watching for the engine bay paint job, because i'll be doing mine too at some point. Atleast with different colour GP's we'll both have different colours :p

Spaced :p

Alright mate. Car's looking well! Loving the plastidip on your alloys. Interested in doing this to mine now. Cheaper than a full refurb that's for sure! Was it easy to do?

Cheers pal!

Yeah it was dead simple to do. If I was to do it again i'd do a few things differently though. If you follow the youtube vids on how to apply it you can't go wrong.

it is :) if you look on my thread, my grill is done with plasti dip :)

i go on motorways everyday as i commute to work.. its held well regarding stone chips etc

Do you think it would be worthwhile doing both grills aswell, and the cacky white bumper inbetween in one go. I'd love you to say i could get away with just doing the bit inbetween :p Very tempted, i saw how easily it can be removed aswell if it goes wrong, or i decide i want it off. So thats appealing in itself, i can only assume it is just as easy to remove from paintwork as it is, tyres, grills and wheels ect.

As promised, new BMC panel filter is here and on!

First impressions are good, looks like a quality product, peace of p**s to fit and sounds nice when you let off the throttle. I also cut the pipe in the air box so air is sucked from the entire filter and not just the centre where the pipe goes to.

Looking good.

I'd get a live remap if I were you. Tend to get much better results. I'm looking at getting the forge braces, intercooler and then a remap at PDTuning in sunderland.

I am looking to get mine remapped soon have you had a price off pdtuning looking at there site they charge £399 for 35bhp gain. i have been looking at red dots site they charge £350 also for 35bhp gain. but people off here have been getting 190+ bhp so i am guessing that red dot use fly wheel bhp figures not at the wheels when on the rollers. can any body that has had theres mapped from red dot confirm this. nice sneaky trick if true.

how do you find the Forge braces? I've heard from some people there really noisy?

tempted to buy them myself as there only £50 ..

The braces are ace in my opinion. No noises on mine. The photo I have on here is from the Forge Website (stock photo) and doesn't show the new redesign braces. The new ones have a notch cut out on the larger brace. The old ones had a problem with the gearbox knocking on the brace under hard acceleration but this isn't a problem on mine/the new ones.
