Punto (Mk2/2b) Loop's Punto MK2B 16v Active Sport

Introduction

Bought the car for £1400 and after a good look around i found it to be in quite good condition for it's price and mileage (82k)

Unfortunately i'm with a telematic box insurance company so i cannot do too much to it. On the plus side ... Cheap insurance (y)

Will upload more pics later

Re: My Punto Mk2b

Got yourself a nice car there! :) already has alot of added extras like the spoiler and alloys! :)

As for mods its always the subtle ones that usually make the biggest difference and they dont affect insurance either! :)
Mods like: Colour Coding, Debadging, destripping and genuinely playing about with different parts of the car to make it look how you want it to :)

Re: My Punto Mk2b

you could always hack the back of the light out and fit a string of led's in place of the sidelight bulbs
look much better in the dark and makes car more visible to mr magoo types

Re: My Punto Mk2b

Major service done last week.

Had rear shoes replaced, apparently they were crumbling and looked original

Things that need doing when i have cash: Cambelt (Urgent, previous owner should have done this 12k miles ago), Front Shoes & Discs and Front Shocks

Re: My Punto Mk2b

Nice car loop, reminds me of my old one! :)
I even had a big-brother-watching-you box in mine too.

I agree with most others here, there are lots of good things to do that won't affect your insurance!

Swap the rear tailgate with a pre-facelift one. Will go well with your debadged grill!

These boxes are a pain, especially the limited mileage (6,000)

So far i've done:
Badgeless Grill
Fli Comp 6 Speakers
Pioneer Headunit
Footwell Lights (Disco lights according to ysidfa because Chinese eBay seller sent me multi-changing lights)

Not sure i like the idea of a pre-facelift tailgate, too much hassle i think. Would rather de-badge mine but i don't think i'm keeping it much longer than end of January.

Re: My Punto Mk2b

Tap Tap Tap Tap

All i hear from the engine when it's running, especially when it's cold, get progressively faster when revving the engine. Yet ... gets quieter when the engine is warm.

Tappets wearing out? Cam followers wearing out?

Thought the service would pick it up with a nice oil change but no avail.

Re: My Punto Mk2b

Judging from the symptoms I think it's likely something to do with the valves but I've heard similar noises from cars which turned out to be a blowing exhaust manifold.
Nice car though mate, looks very smart

Hopefully don't have to do any work on it as i'm changing car January/February time

Need an MOT doing for December but as ive just had the service i might get it done in the next couple of weeks so it doesn't fail (y)

Oil when its cold is high viscous - ie resists to flow easily

Once it warmed up - it becomes less viscour and flow pretty well

the tapping while cold is the head is getting flooded really with cold oil
Not to worry - lot of oil is better then no oil

as it warms - it runs alot better and the tapping goes away

NOW if the tapping is there once warm
check shim gaps and if there is even any oil getting to the head
