Seicento Oliver the '99 Sporting 'Abarth'

Introduction

I thought I might as well begin a thread for my car, as I've had him for ages and nobody really knows! So...

It all began around December 2010 if I remember correctly :p

Where I collected this fine specimen of the breed :p
In decent condition, but with a fairly iffy history (previous owner had sold it to a dodgy garage for scrap after being told it had rusted out...a quick check says that this was absolute rubbish!).

However, I can't help but feel that the standard sporting, especially before the facelift, is not exactly a work of art. Therefore I decided that I'd slowly 'sort' him out. So first up was the obligatory set of FiatForum stickers ;)

Continual ebay trawling surfaced some skirts and a spoiler at a exceptional price which I snapped up and popped on one weekend!

Might have gone a bit OTT with the badges though! If anyone knows what the 'Formula' bit refers to, that would be good to know ;)

It still looked a bit pants though, due to the fact that it looked like it was on caster wheels instead of proper car wheels!

So...this is how he looks now!

Further ebay trawling produced these mighty fine alloys (the optional extra Abarth alloys no less) for little more than a standard set of Abarth alloys would have cost. With part worn P6000's thrown in I'm sitting happy for a bit. And I got rid of the badges and rear wiper...much better! (y) Also found a set of matching Abarth headrests for a fiver, better than the £50 someone wanted on ebay!

So, whats up next? Well, there is an 866 cam sat next to me to go in when I have the money (I am only a student after all), along with another chip (has a Gazzaman2K chip in at the mo) to spice life up a bit. And maybe an induction kit...and a front splitter...but other than that, it's just getting out and enjoying it ;)

And before anyone asks, yes, all the mods are declared and accounted for, and the insurance only cost me £700 this year! (I'm 19, so that is beepin' good!)

So, if you're out and about in Devon (mainly Exeter and Torquay...or Cornwall), give me a wave!

Over to you guys :D Any further ideas?
Very nice, love the colour and the alloys, seen a few sets lately, suit the car very well.

Further ideas.... Slip a 1242 block in there and keep up the good work

always loved sei's in this colour (y)
Some clear indicators and side repeaters look great on this colour.

and may i be the first to say, needs lowered :p

I was unsure about clear indicators and the like, as I would have thought it would make the orange strips look a bit...isolated, if you know what I mean :p If you can link to any pics so I can have a look, that would be great! :D
But lowered is definitely needed...i was thinking only 30mm or something, but i'm not really sure!

£700! You cheeky sod, add 2 grand and you got my quote.....
And these alloys look great, never seen them before. Have a look out for a supersprint exhaust and a 4-2-1 manifold. Lovely work!

As Blu said, it's a pity more people didn't spec them, as they are lovely! But the standard Abarth ones look great too, so I see why people wouldn't have bothered! And yeah, it will need a new zoorst soon and bits...are these easily available new? I know that brand new bits for these cars seem to be becoming more and more scarce!

Not a real update but still... :p

Clayed the car today using the Autoglym 'Surface Detailing Clay Kit'.
My god, what a difference. The paintwork (even in its relatively poor state on my Sei) feels like new. If you are considering it, I recommend it! I'm fairly sure the Meguiars (sp?) kit is equally as good too.

Now a question...

When I steer at low speed quite vigorously (like a mini roundabout etc) there is a clicking that can be heard from the bottom of the steering column. Any ideas? I read something about a 'pot joint' or something, but that sounds rather illegal to me ;)

It's not noticeable at higher speed, nor does it seem to effect steering...
Any advice?

classic sounds like a cv joint needing done or could well be the wheels are catching the inner wheel arch liners

Right, the power steering has been going a bit crazy recently, it has always pulled to the left a little (torque sensor going weird) but recently it has been pulling to the point where it could probably park itself :p So...I've pulled the fuse and taken it for a spin. I just want to check (without starting a new thread) that apart from getting huge arm muscles, there won't be any negative side effects? I've got a lot of miles to do in the next month and can't afford/ don't have time to whack in a new column! I doubt it will cause problems but would rather be sure :p Strangely, the clicking (guessed to be) cv joint has shut up too...maybe it was the PAS kicking in rather violently for basically no time at all...

tl/dr: PAS is going mental, pulled the fuse, will this cause damage?

Oh, and if anyone knows an easy-ish way of getting some grease into the torque sensor and can recommend any particular product, I would try and make a guide on how to at least temporarily help the situation :p

(sorry for double post)

Lovely car mate. Mine is similar though not an Abarth and a darker shade.
I have some issues with my PAS also, but I can live with it for now. My old 899cc Sei didn't have it anyway so by the time I got this my arms were quite capable!
Again, the car looks lovely.

Yeah, I guess I'll live with it for now :p Cheers for the compliments, I do what I can! Yours looks very clean and tidy, sometimes wish mine was a the darker shade as it's a bit less common down this way at least! Looks meaner too ;)

I guessed so, sourcing all the Abarth bits was a right pain in the behind, easy if I wanted them in yellow, silver, not so much. Am yet to see any of the dark silver/grey stuff for sale though...

I'm not so fussed about the Abarth bits tbh. Funny you should say that, as I am going for the mean look (eventually), well as mean as these can look. More like "angry kitten" than wild beast lol!
About 6 months ago I saw a light silver abarth with the grey embroided seats, in pretty good nick, in the scrapyard. He offered me the wheels and seats for £120 but I didn't have the money and I only had the SX then so I didn't get them, then went back for the exhaust a few weeks later and it had been crushed. I was gutted, it didn't look bad at all. Think it had a front end bump but was minor. Very sad, poor little car.

Angry kitten indeed :p It is a pity about that, especially considering it was in good nick! Hardly any in the scrappies down here, bit odd really. Although scrap yards, at least good ones, are fairly scarce around here. Oh well, I'm going to try and keep this one off the scrap heap for as long as I can...must be a future classic ;)

I think you are right there, already a classic in my mind, the kit it's got for the year it was made, and the performance for it's size. You can't lose!(y)
