Bravo Meet Clunky.

Introduction

Just thought I'd start a thread here while I remember :)

Car is a 1.4 90 (boo hiss) Active (tsssssk)

Got the car at just under 11000 miles in Nov 09, now on 21500 in Sept 11.

Not got many pics of the car when I first got it, never really thought to take any.

Here's one when it was in the garage just before I changed the wheels over.

Next job was to fit the wheels, debadge the rear and remove the rear wiper, as it was broken after being pushed down too far under the Nov 10 snow.

That was around about May 11, and at this point decided lowering springs were needed. Got myself a set of SPAX SSX springs from whitebravo for £30 and here is how it's sitting at the moment

Currently waiting on an Eibach Sportline kit so I can drop the front further without having to spend £450+ on coilovers...yet:devil:

Future plans include the coilovers I've mentioned, a set of ESM 002R wheels, a matte black wrap and maybe, eventually, hopefully, possibly an engine swap later on in it's life.

The plans will take a good few years to come together, as uni is number one priority for me at the moment, but will be steadily progressing :)
Re: Meet Clunky

Forgot I started this thread

Anyways, an update. Coilovers are now fitted, lowered 70mm rear and 50mm front. Annoyingly the rears are wound all the way down :bang:. Adapters are arriving in the next few days, plus tyres will be ordered pretty damn soon.

The wheels :) Drifz Venom they are. Bottom pic is with centre caps, and my magical camera has repainted the chrome lips walnut...

How the car is sitting right now, on it's SH*TE steel wheels. Maybe get these banded for winter. Thoughts?

And finally, the underside shot, mandatory in every lowered car thread. Still to go lower, probably.

Opinions welcome :D

Re: Meet Clunky

are you driving around at 5mph everywhere or what? it is way too low IMO, anyway, would like to see the wheels on it mate. ;)

Only 5mph where there are speed bumps/hills/crests/moderate incline ;). And same man, adapters should be here either today or tomorrow, get a test fit of the wheels done and see if I need 215/40 or 225/40 tyres, and whether or not I need to get my arches rolled. Then that's it for a bit bar small tweaks.

Its then either sell up for a 150TJet now insurance is reasonable, or a Clio 182

Re: Meet Clunky

going for 17's once this years insurance is paid, reckon £1300 - £1700 this year, so save 2k, gives me enough for some sport wheels, gonna have to keep my car unitl 2050 i think to make the insurance payments worth while lol, if its cheap enough i may say sod it give it back and get a coupe/GTV

ohhh and if the clio is a Yellow one go for it :D

Re: Meet Clunky

Rims looks the dugs bullukz :D .... so looking forward to seeing them on... with tyres that is :p

Regarding ride height... omg ... that wouldnt work where I live :O ... looks awesome but it would be like grating cheese... constantly slicing off the underbelly of the beast :) ...but then again... that would also lower it.. hmm ;)

Keep us updated !

Cheers

Re: Meet Clunky

cainy1989, awesome bud, there are a nice set of 17's on eBay atm (y) and a yellow Clio would be awesome :)
MarkRacoon, cheers :) adapters came today, so once I get the correct bolts and spigots, I'll get it all fitted up. Hallelujah for work bonus :worship:. The ride height is okayish for where I live, tho I smacked the underside really hard today, so gonna have to watch for any leaks, and pay more attention. Got too complacent, then SMACK. Horrid noise, think I got away with it this time :woot:

There will also soon be another lowered Bravo on the forum, sold my old (well, I say old, I mean used-for-4-months old) Eibachs to an undisclosed member :slayer:

Re: Meet Clunky

You really need to watch you don't catch your sump on raised stank covers on mid-re-surfaced roads. Remember you've only got the 2 inches from the sump to the ground :p

Looking forward to the pics of it with the wheels on mate.

Re: Meet Clunky

So a small update. After the fail that was fitting cruise control earlier, I decided to use the garage time I thought I had constructively. As you can tell tho from the Primera, my dad came home earlier than expected :bang:

Anyway, here is a test fit of the wheels :)

POKAGE!

Now I need to order tyres and yet yet more bolts, the ones supplied aren't the correct thread :bang: Good things come to those who wait though, eh?

Re: Meet Clunky

Your car is now... black? Unless it's just some lighting trick, the car in that photo is definitely black, or a ghost.

Re: Meet Clunky

I'm afraid your tires will rub so much it's not gonna be fun. You'll need some extreme fender rolling.

Yeah, I will get them rolled once I have found a local place that can do it, still trying to find somewhere though.

I also found out that the new bolts required are definitely M12x1.5, as per VW fitment, so I have sent an e-mail to the company I bought the adapters off to either cover the cost of the bolts or send me some.

Finally, I have just purchased the new tyres, 215/40r18 Falken Fk452s, so there will be a reasonable amount of stretch, as they are known to "run narrow."

EDIT: Forgot I took this pic. It'll give you a laugh; this is how low the jack needs to go to get underneath the car

I once had to drive my MG ZT onto some packing so that I could get the car onto a car lift lol the side skirts made it really low

Now need to cut down 8 bolts, and get the tyre sealed on one of the rims as it's not 100% sealed all the way around and has a slow :(. Spoken to a guy about arch rolling, and then, finally it'll be done

Edit, does anyone know of any coilovers that will take the rear lower? Need moar lowz

Looks good scott, the rims are really sexy.

Be careful with the arch rolling, especially near the corners (where sideskirts would meet the arches) the metal is not flexible there so he shouldn't force it to bend there.
