Punto (Mk1) Mk1 Punto Cabriolet Bertone 1.2 16v.

Introduction

Starting a new thread cause i got my last one deleted for using photobucket

Ok, so my misses has been driving for 6 months now and wanted something different and with a bit more poke then her 59hp 1.0 16v Micra Active. Shes been searching and searching for weeks for one of these and there bloody hard to find now so we ended up getting this, the only black one we could find.

Its a 1998 Fiat Punto Bertone 1.2 16v Cabriolet. Body and paint is in good nick and 4 brand new Yokohoma tyres, but needs work else where. Already replaced the side indicators for smoked ones and changed the thermostat and ripped the old airbox out ready for a k&N induction and debadged the boot. Plans include Change of wheels maybe 15" or 16" max, lowered, maybe an extension to the rear bumper and maybe an abarth bodykit and small bootlid spoiler, needs new mohair electric hood cause the rear windows got a massive split, replacement mirror, new radiator, oil & Filter change, fuel filter, replace sparkplugs and leads, White LED numberplate lights, smoked angel eyes with HID bulb conversion, half smoked rear lights, tinted sunstrip, new passenger lock, car mats, maybe GT turbo front brake setup, paint rear drums black, replacement glovebox lid, battery clamp. We already got some leather material to trim the seats. In the process of stripping out the interior and drying it out as its got damp from the split rear window before its recovered.

I think it makes a nice girly car for the summer and should look pretty mint when its done

its a nippy little thing and pushing a standard 86hp and down only by 4hp on the 1.6 8v version it replaced, also makes it drop down to a insurance group 8 and cheap tax bracket

would make for a great 1.4 GT Turbo conversion

Re: Mk1 Punto Cabriolet Bertone 1.2 16v

Looking realy nice. ive got to say probably one of the best example of a mk1 cabriolet i have seen. (y) keen up the good work.

Re: Mk1 Punto Cabriolet Bertone 1.2 16v

as above, looks great. Wheels are a touch of inspiration, not seen them on a punto before (y)

notice you still not got the GT brakes you were thinking about originally, do that front and rear, you won't regret it. Although you could prob fit brembo 4pots from a coupe 20vt inside them wheels as well ;)

Thanks :)

Yes havent put the GT brakes on yet. When we got it it still had alot of meat left on the discs and pads and its not been used in the last year so there still good but when it comes to replacing them ill opt for the GT vented discs and calipers.

Re: Mk1 Punto Cabriolet Bertone 1.2 16v

good man.. you don't see enough of these - although its not like you ever saw many of these in the UK.

Whats the wind noise like in one of these on the motorway?

Don't know yet, we haven't been on the motorway in it yet. It's spent the last year since we have owned it in my garage being worked on. It's in the process of having a new clutch at the moment.

Re: Mk1 Punto Cabriolet Bertone 1.2 16v

ah, so it close to finished, well road worthy now?

Yes. Had it pre-MOT checked today. Only thing it needs now is new front brake lines and a cat back exhaust as its blowing in a few places. Iam gonna get a set of goodridge braided brake hoses for it next.

Also has abut of a leak around the cam seal, so might get a new seal and head gasket just to be safe.

The Misses finished trimming the back seats, which look pretty good for a DIY job with minimal amount of tools for the job.

Cars booked in on the 28th March to have the new hood fitted for a good price of £160. Also got a Punto GT Black leather steering wheel coming from ebay.

just a few pics

Re: Mk1 Punto Cabriolet Bertone 1.2 16v

looking good fella ;)

New hood gonna be black? or you going for something a bit different.

its black PVC but looks abit grey against the dark gloss black of the car. Was originally getting a mohair hood cause it would look darker, but the cleaning and maintenance of the mohair and the extra cost put us off. Seeing as this will be a daily the PVC will be more durable and easier to clean
