Stilo Minus8's project

Introduction

So the ordering of parts has begun for my Stilo project. The first batch of parts are on their way then things should start to take shape very quickly after christmas (just moved house so funds are tight :)).

The aim of this project is to create a unique car that is subtly dressed without being chavy, sporty without being on the level of a sports car that you have to be over protective of where you park it. I'm sorry to say there are too many jealous gits around some parts of Belfast (n).

Anyway, some parts will be going on this week, in the mean time this is the beauty now :)

Day one, march 2010, 48k miles

November 2010, 55k miles, still standard but all the problems the car came with sorted (and there was a lot of them ) Nice and clean, not too shabby for cheap Tesco wax :)

Lots more to come, hope you all enjoy :)
First of the mods arrived today :) Blades on, not quite finished, I'll be making a slight change to that area just after christmas ;). Self added tints on the rear three windows, I'm going to get it done proffessionally, I just wanted to gauge how it would look without the front windows tinted! That and a sunstrip added, again I'm going to get a larger sunstrip done with the rear windows.

Enjoy :)

Oh and Ratty, It's a 1.6, hopefully going to be returning to the student life next september so I need the cheaper insurance or I'd be having a Schumi!

I was actually looking at a 150mjet and considering a 115 with a remap but Stilo's in NI are pretty rare and I'm happy with mine, so I thought I'd stick with it :)

Thanks on the blade looks! I love them myself :D, gonna love them even more when they get some paint in the new year ;) (and non rusted brake discs lol)

I got them on ebay for £56 believe it or not, cost £100 to ship but even at that I feel guilty . The guy that sold them told me they needed a refurb and two new tyres, theres barely a mark on them and all four tyres had more tread than what I was running with!

PS, If said individual that I ripped off is on here, SORRY!

i kinda wish i had blown my budget on a 150mjet. There is one on ebay that has been there for a couple of months now but saying that my jtd is dirt cheap on the insurance. Your blades would look great in gunmetal against the silver body.

A quick update as the car just got a good clean I thought it would be a good time to take a few pics ;)

Added my badgeless grill and DTS coilovers, ride height to be adjusted, lets not go there for now :bang:. I also had wind deflectors but I left them on top of the car and drove over them! SOOOooo gotta order another set perhaps

Progress will unfortunately be slow for another few months, between now and march I need tax, insurance, 4 new tyres, windscreen chip sorted, suspected MAP or lambda sensor and a service but yes, enjoy :)

I actually have night breakers in my main beams, looking at that pic your so right :D I'll deff be changing the side lights when I have the bumber off to change the headlight motor, which is another job to do before the MoT in march

Spent about 5 hours detailing the car today, unfortunately the rain felt as if it was starting so I had to finish up early. I got myself some Autoglym Extra Gloss Protection so I took the opportunity to wash, clay, polish, wax and get some EGP on.

An Osram Nightbreaker packed in after only 5 months use so I got some Bosch bulbs instead and finally got the ride height set as I want it and part debadged the boot :)

Not sure what the future of modifying the Stilo holds, I have the cash to start things up again but I really want a Fiat GP or a VW Jetta :D.

Opinions welcome :)

Looking good but your car is screaming out for Abarth side skirts. There is a guy in NI with a set on ebay

(y) Cheers mate, I know about the skirts, I'm the one (reluctantly) selling them :(. There's quite a few stone chips/scratches/the dent on the drivers door that need sorting so the skirts are going until the car is running tip top and the paintwork is sorted, I just don't know whether to sell it after that or get some skirts, engine mods and ice in there (and more than likely some 18's after seeing your car :slayer:) and keep the Stilo :chin:

Car looks awsome mate. Whats the drop you have on there, and where did you pick up the coilovers? Just bought a new 1.6 for the missus and looking for the best kit to drop it with. Cheers

(y) Thanks mate. I'm not quite sure what the drop is, it's a bit lower than the photos give it credit for (crap phone camera :p) the wheels are filling the arches nicely but that only gives me about an inch or so of clearance between the sump and the ground

I got the coilovers from DTS on ebay.de

They are pretty good, a little soft to go mega low though but take care over speed bumps and you can get a little more drop than mine have at the minute. If you want to go really low I'd spend the extra money on coilies with more adjustment than just height so you can firm things up a little.

Hope this helps (y)

Sump scrubber!:slayer: Thanks for the coilover advice, seem to be a good option then for the drop. I will have a look around and make the purchase! Picking up the new stilo tonight so project thread on this one soon. Cheers mate!(y)

No problem, good luck, looking forward to some pics (y)

Ha, really, did you have many problems with yours when you got it? I found them pretty useless :(

There were loads of problems with it BEFORE I got it lol. It had to be started with a booster/jump-start pack as the battery was completely knackered, as a result it had half a dozen error messages. It had stood unsold & un-moved for so long the brakes were badly seized on. There were other issues with it but smaller by comparison.

Fixing these problems were negotiated as part of the sale before the car was to be taken away. When it came time to collect the car they said they had sorted everything that was arranged, however when the car was taken on its second test drive a few of the problems they said they had fixed were still there. This resulted in the price being dropped to compensate for the errors remaining.

So I'd have to say they did act fairly.

A few more serious problems happened once I got the car home, but they were unforeseen at the time of the deal with the dealer.

How was your experience with them?

Ah that's not too bad then, at least you got a few quid off :D. When I bought mine I had a very naive opinion that dealer cars are fault free and everything would be sorted through warranty so I didn't inspect it as well as I should have. I can't even remember half of the problems now, most of them typical maintenance type things like a spring was snapped, dodgy coil packs etc etc. The car broke down twice in first couple of months (the first time being the first time I drove it!) and it sat on their lot for 3 weeks untouched without me getting told what was going on or anything  it was only when I got onto the finance company that they even looked at the car :yuck: All in all I found them **** poor and sure as hell wouldn't go back for another car (n)
