Grande Punto Black Abarth

Introduction

Hi All,

This is my "new" Black Abarth Grande Punto :slayer:

It should be pretty much staying as standard, might just get a different air filter that fits in the same box but thats about it.

I upgraded from a T-Jet and it makes a big difference (y)

Hope you like the pictures. Was done using the turtle wax back to black kit. Well worth the money, but time consuming! Took me 3 hrs to do this.

Still need to clean the seats and a bit of the interior but that can wait till tomorrow :)

Comments Please

TallTom
I quoted misc as he said he's had his box changed, saying m32 boxes are crap, but his isn't a m32

chinese whispers! I read it somewhere on here, surely ive just mixed up the mjets gearbox which is a m32, or is it not? lol what ever gearbox the t-jets have general opinion is that theyre pretty dreadful!

please excuse the muddle of my brain (y)

Mjet, Astra Vxr and a few others share m32 6 speed box, the vauxhall version has nylon sixth gear, so is even worse than fiats version, Ive notsctually heard of any fiat m32 boxes actually failing completely or exploding though yet, just worn gears, and diff

I'm on my 3rd, 1st one lasted 3 years 30k, then 2nd lasted 6 months, current one seems fine at mo lol but it's only been on 2 months. All warranty due to play in gear and whining. In all honesty, the fiat tech even said that it probably wouldn't get worse,

thats not good at all! (n) hope it holds on for ya! bad times, doesnt put you off fiat? I said I wouldnt get another fiat or italian car but if I get an abarth...lol

What about a vxr corsa like you were gonna get. Yeh I know I was worried about piston 4 but if you find one looked after then the performance figures speak for themselves when tuned up.

You'll be paying over the odds for a Fiat with an abarth engine cover and a few stick on badges.
John,

The Abarth is completely different to the sporting, I have had both sporting for 12 months and AGP for over 2 years now. There is a large difference, handling, feel etc Yes its a fiat shell, but lots has been done to it and it handles differently.

Just my 2p :)

MISC When you free next?

I get paid this Thursday so will actually have some cash and hopefully time to show you the car.

Thats a difficult question man, im always working and its kinda work when im told so rarely have free time, when I do though ill have to give you a shout! Got a couple mates at uni in hatfield (which is probably quite close to you) and go up there occasionally so ill let you know if I do that also! (y)

Depending how I drive around 13 minutes to Bishops Rise (Student area)

Service Yesterday

Oil and Spark plugs - £280......

They didn't have an SS filter in as they had used it the day before or something like that.

Overall check revealed that:

Handbrake cables covers are damaged/missing

O/S/R suspension not sitting in cup properly

brake pads "supposedly" 50 odd% worn, (Had replacements in may) and have done around 8,000 miles

Battery, 50% Charged

Brake fluid low boiling point 180C, needs to be replaced.

Other than that not much "wrong" with it.

Other work I will need to get done next month to spread the cost a little, but before my trip through Europe!

So currently in Slough getting the car serviced, a nice 6 hour wait for me! Full service, brake fluid and belts (3 months late) + waterpump to be done, don't think I need the plugs changed though, still looking at around £650.

Thankfully will be back down from Edinburgh on the 20th December, so able to drive it a lot more. Spend 10 months up there Monday - Friday so driving options were limited.

Plan to give it a decent clean over Xmas period, then deciding if I should winter tyre or not for a few months with my older alloys and keep the White wheels nice and clean!

Definitely winter wheel it. Sods law says those who have the option of winter wheels will be the ones who slide off into a curb at some point scuffing their prized rims. Thus, why i have my steels on currently!

Get your Barth clean and get a photo...haven't seen a fresh pic for a while :D
