Grande Punto Black Abarth

Introduction

Hi All,

This is my "new" Black Abarth Grande Punto :slayer:

It should be pretty much staying as standard, might just get a different air filter that fits in the same box but thats about it.

I upgraded from a T-Jet and it makes a big difference (y)

Hope you like the pictures. Was done using the turtle wax back to black kit. Well worth the money, but time consuming! Took me 3 hrs to do this.

Still need to clean the seats and a bit of the interior but that can wait till tomorrow :)

Comments Please

TallTom
Few more pictures!!

I got a cracking deal on this kit, stupidly good for what I got in it, upgrades are:

Essesse Springs
Essesse Wheels - PNero Tyres - 215/40/R18 - (Type that in blackcircles = £225 a tyre!!!)
Front Brake Pads - Ferodo DS2500
Drilled Front Discs
Drilled Rear Discs

As an added bonus its now a bit easier for me to clean my front callipers as there is space!!

Tom iv'e got a lot of questions that I need help answering, really been considering getting an abarth to own for a year or two as won't cost me hardly anything! :D

Now I can imagine it was a nice upgrade from the T-Jet! Don't want to modify my T-Jet with bigger turbo, etc. etc. like an abarth as I reckon its cheaper to get an abarth and purely cause im so bored of a red car! (y) I cant help thinking though the abarth has an extra 35bhp but a lower torque figure than the T-Jet, so what is the power difference realistically like? Did you upgrade from a series1 or a series2? I'd be likely to get an exhaust system and a remap at some stage for more power, rough figures of that would be around 170+bhp or is the engine fairly tuned to its max with the bigger turbo?

Other than thatttttttt :D pro's, con's and any more differences you have noticed?

aaaand of course your cars looking lovely! (y)

Sporting: 1.4 16V T-Jet I4 1368 cc 120 PS (88 kW; 118 hp) 5000 rpm 206 N·m (152 lb·ft) @1750 rpm 8.9 195 km/h (121 mph) from 2007
Abarth: 1.4 16V T-Jet I4 1368 cc 155 PS (114 kW; 153 hp) @5500 rpm 230 N·m (170 lb·ft) @3000 rpm 8.2 208 km/h (129 mph) Abarth model, from 2007

Check the grande punto wiki page, 0-62 with sport on is around 7.8 seconds

Abarth has more torque than the T-Jet as standard, as well as the Sport button which makes a large difference

They can be mapped to around 180 bhp like a normal t-jet with the abarth turbo difference is as follows (map results would be different due to the cam profiles though):

Engine Cam profiles + Turbo
Wider track (tyres)
Thicker Anti Roll Bar
AWESOME BRAKES!!
Looks very different and seats are better.
Other stuff I cannot remember!

I went from a 09 plate, that Tom91 now owns, to a 58 plate one of the first abarths built

If you are around tonight or tomorrow, I will PM my number and come take you for a quick spin if we can meet somewhere sensible between cambridge and brox? Might even be free the weekend at some point also.

PS It will cost you more to run, trust me on that one! But the difference will be fine if you are happy with the experience like I am :)

autotraders figures are lying to me! I suppose the torque being 145lbs is probably without the sport button on, I would drive with it on most of time haha ;) im already running my t-jet at 25-30mpg so shouldnt think fuel would be too much worse!

I was trying to work out if it was you or tom91 with the black t-jet but now it allll makes sense! (y) Id love to come have a nose about your car but im so busy its rather impossible (n)

when you say cost more to run...fuel isnt a problem I already burn it like crazy haha, does the abarth share the same dreadful M32 gearbox? already had to have mine rebuilt (n) and I find in my t-jet it doesnt sound too happy under hard excelleration, does the abarth cope any better?

thanks for the answers! (y) next thing is finding a black abarth for sale which is virtually impossible, you must have been waiting a while to find yours!

Didnt wait at all, just found it and went and brought it! Have had it 2 years this July I am pretty sure.

Sports button is addictive, reduces power steering assistance so you can actually feel something! they all have a 6 speed M32 gearbox, same one that is on the VXR Astra, but AGP is tuned lower, mine has been fine so far. I am wondering if I should get a LSD as an upgrade and upgrade all the bearings at the same time.

Servicing at dealerships is rather expensive my 2nd year service was £420, I was quoted £540 originally, it uses a different grade oil as well, £20 for 2L from shop4parts, consumables are more expensive as well tyres, brakes pads and discs and the like. I can give you a breakdown of my costs so far and what to expect.

Ah all I will say is that I am free this Wed and Thurs, then around the weekend if you do have some time. Ideally if we can meet somewhere halfway my car will then be warm also and I can take you out straight away and push it a bit if you would be ok with that.

Honestly the difference is as clear as night and day between the two.

Found mine straight away and waited about 1+ months to buy it as I had to sort out cash etc.

M32 6 spd box, has been fine and no issues for me so far, used in VXR Astra, and the AGP is underpowered compared to that, so dont abuse it and it will be fine is what I think.

Consumables cost more, tyres brake pads/discs and its best if you run it on super unleaded (2more BHP!!!!!)

Servicing costs from a dealer are also more, I will explain if I do ever meet you.

Fine under accleration, I had noises under hard braking but that was because I had no front pads left and was aware of that anyway, new I was getting this kit so it didnt make a difference and still stopped quickly!

There's only 1 black AGP for sale atm, aftermarket alloys and nearly 60k on the clock so looks like im going to have to wait for something better to crop up! (n) (so impatient ;))

I only really drive my T-Jet hard and having to rebuild the gearbox was mostly my fault I should imagine, do get a bit carried away sometimes quick changing and such haha :) In the near 2 years ive owned my car ive never needed/replaced tyres or brakes so not too worried about that! Did you never get a wierd rattling sound when lifting off/changing gear from high revs? Think something in my engine bay is loose

I'd love to get the esseesse package you have if it isnt too pricey, must really improve it and make it feel a lot more 'stable' as a whole (y)

I only have the Assetto handling kit, not the extra power I am afraid! I will go aftermarket for that if I want to spend the money soon, want to buy a house at some point though so should really save for that! I drive hard but it must be warm and I concentrate so I dont fluff any changes etc.

I am on 43k now and I have original alloys and springs in my garage still :)

Smoother is faster a lot of the time! Flow well and you will be quicker and its all about forward planning

Your always free when im not :bang:

Well I am busy friday and not giving that up for certian reasons lol, Saturday and Sunday, I am not up to much this weekend due to the kit costs and I dont get paid till Thursday!

Oh yer i appreciate that, not paying thousands of pounds for the power upgrade, just not worth it! like you say go aftermarket for that! (y)

Agreed, I always let the car warm up even before I get in it! I did manage the other day to forget I was in neutral :bang: havent got the same concentration as you clearly haha :(

I will still be paying thousands lol, but it will be aftermarket, as I cannot have the kit through Abarth and there are no more in the country! :(

I nearly had the last one but I didn't get to it in time!!

well that sucks! (n) im just going to have to wait for one to come up for sale! Is there also a difference in S1 and S2 AGP's like the normal t-jets? Very picky and want the double 6 spoked alloys which I imagine is off a S1 or a S2 :)

No idea on differences between S1 and S2, I think Abarths might be all S2 though.

6 Spoke double alloys are the alternative design alloys for the Abarths, I think you will have fun finding a black car with those wheels. You know there are only around 350 AGP in the UK total anyway don't you?

Only one I can think of is owned by BGT something who is on this forum, might be a few others somewhere else.

Howmanyleft say 348 155BHP ones....

Oh yeah, pretty rare car! Its all I seem to go for, started off wanting an arctic corsa VXR which were fairly rare, then wanted a golf gti edition 30 which are not quite as rare and now the abarth, sure know how to pick 'em haha (n)

Yer I found that thread of the guy with the black AGP with those alloys, notice you'd left the last post over 2 years ago so god knows where that one is :( I fear it's going to be a long wait for this car! (n)

tjet is 5 speed isnt it? tjet doesnt use m32 box

just confirmed. tjet is 100% not m32, its a c510 same as abarth 500
