Fuel pressure is mechanically regulated in the tank, before it exits. That is why there is no return. It remains at 3.5 bar at all times. The pump will be on constantly over 200RPM or something.

sure i saw somewhere that it's regulated via driving it from a PWM signal. I guess this isn't the case then?

Or does it use that up till 2000RPM and then it gets full beans and the mechanical reg kicks in and holds 3.5bar? Meaning the the pump will need to be wired to the standalone / switched live instead of the stock ECU

seriously cool. What's the thing poking out of the front bumper?

The fuel pump is wired into the ecu -but I am unsure exactly how it runs as it always runs at the same pressure and there isn't any voltage change supplied to it.

Isn't there just one wire that runs from the ecu to pump? controlled by the ecu it regulates the amount pumped. pin 23 or summin cos its the same as if you wanna fit a tacho. is on older fiats anyway

Pump is either on or off. This is the same for all modern petrol FIATs. Mechanical reg is built into the lid you can see at the top of a fuel tank. The pump (wired directly in parallel with injectors/lambdas on some models like 8v Panda) are fed by a relay whose coil is activated by a pin on the ECU at anything above 40RPM. It is also activated for 3 seconds regardless of anything else when the ECU is first given a switched live. It does not vary with RPM or any other condition. It's in the FIAT manuals and I have also dissected a new Panda (1.2 8v) and a Mk3 Punto (1.4 16v) and have found it to be true.

lewey you are a hero. I was envisioning nightmares when i came to wire mine lol.

I checked the wiring diagram and like you say theres just a simple relay circuit to the pump.

As long as the stock ecu reads and outputs rpm with ignition even without the engine running, then things should be sweet....? shakey?

Just run it all the time, switched with the ignition. Take the wire that goes from the pump (sometimes other things too) relay coil into the ECU and earth it.
