Grande Punto Mod ideas please!

Introduction

Ive got window tint so far and im looking into getting alloys.
anyone got some alloys suggestions?
i need some more mod ideas please! someone has suggested a K & N air filter as its fairly basic and not too expensive. I was also looking into HIDs but it started looking a bit awkward and technically illegal? so ive just put in sum halford 'brillance' bulbs for now.
Also is anyone is able to photoshop some alloy wheels onto one of the pics below then let me no :D

Any Suggestions Would be Good!

Some pics to enjoy/comment on :D

Looks nice mate :)

Could try some Abarth headlights, Sporting skirts, Eibach Sportline springs and then wheels of your choice - All of the GP Abarth and 500 Abarth wheels look great and so do the Bravo wheels (can't remember which model but they're two-tone silver/grey or black).

I have tried looking for some abarth bits but im obviously looking in the wrong places! lol
I had my eyes set on the grane punto 5 spoke - 2tone alloys. They were spensive when they were £604 then they disapeared for a few weeks and re-appeared now that the evo has come out. but theyve wacked the price up to £904!!
Plus as im stil under the warranty ive got to be careful.. so are there mods that dont affect that?
Thx

I'm pretty sure all aftermarket parts will affect your warranty however using genuine Fiat parts shouldn't be a problem (would check with the dealer to be sure though).

What engine size is it? If it's a 1.2 8v then that might limit your wheel choice as there is a debate about the gearbox/drivetrain being able to cope with the added force required to rotate larger wheels.

It's a 1.4 so hopefully thatll be ok! lol

ive had a quick look on ebay, but all i seem to be able to find is abarth copy matts and badges.. lol

What is all this talk about smaller engines not coping with larger alloy wheels? If you keep the rolling radius constant, installing larger wheels just substitutes volume that would have otherwise been taken up by rubber and air with lightweight aluminium alloy. And the rotational inertia will be almost insignificant compared to the linear inertia caused the by the weight of the car.

The problem is where someone fits a larger wheel without taking account of the rolling radius. If you increase the size of the wheel, you should decrease the tyre profile to maintain a constant tyre diameter. Now of course, lower profile tyres are typically more expensive, so these people are tempted to go for the higher profiles, resulting in a larger rolling radius than stock. Since the linear distance travelled is increased per rotation of the wheel compared to stock, there is a mechanical disadvantage due to leverage effects. This means that more torque is required to overcome the linear inertia, and thus the drivetrain and engine are more stressed.

So in conclusion, get some genuine Fiat alloys, get tyres of the right profile, and get the K&N airbox filter (not induction kit) as it is OEM certified, so it will not affect your warranty.

You also missed out the bit about the speedo mis reading if the rolling radius is changed (y) So yeah, wheel wise I would stay standard. I like those multispokes anyway.

Just drive the car for a while 1st, modding brand new cars is always a bit iffy where warranties are concerned, as stated above, get a panel filter and if you want bigger wheels, buy Fiat OEM.

Oh and get some FiatForum stickers from the shop(y)

Tyre calculator to check that you're keeping the rolling-radius correct...

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Just enter your current tyre size, and the size of the alloys you wish to use, then adjust the width to taste and arch fitment, and finally choose the profile that keeps yoru radius to within +/-2.5%. Oh, and do check that the tyre size actually exists.

As for tyre width, there are so many factors at play, it's up to you to decide. Typically (to a point), dry grip increases with greater width whereas wet grip decreases (aquaplaning). A sweeping generalisation of course, but good enough for a rule of thumb.

Thx guys!
Didnt realise buying alloys could be so technical! lol
I would prefer genuine fiat alloys, the only problem is that they seem to be in the region of £200-500 more expensive! :S
doesnt help that its the http://www.fiat-accessories.com/Fiat-Grande-Punto-Alloy-Wheels-5 that i was after - i.e the most expensive! lol plus then there is the tyre price on top of that!!
whereas i can get faily nice ones a hell of alot cheaper - e.g. http://www.rimstyle.com/products/detail/?category=wheel_tyre_packages;type=inovit_blade_mb;model=443;id=INBLAMB177070410038383410$
or is there anywhere else that you can get genuine fiat alloys? and matts for that matter...

:D

oh and so you reckon that the K&N Air Filter would be ok witht eh warranty? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/K-N-air-filte...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item43979fe985

Totally agree. Also, not having the same diameter, I.e putting bigger wheels on would mess your mileage up. If you put sporting alloys on it, you want 205/45 r17 low profile tyres on it. I've got a k&n on mine. It's the panel filter I have which doesn't affect your warranty. It helps fuel economy and makes your engine last longer (it says it on the box). Mine is chemical grey, the same as yours. Have a look at mine. I put black alloys, red calipers, vinyl front grille, seat leon front spoiler. It was a sporting to start off with. Have a look at stock spoilers too. It makes it look aggresive and lower

Nice!
Well ive got me a K&N panal on order :D:D
And saving up for Some alloys.
Thinking some kind of Vinyl, is it actually possible to get the abarth stripe down the side seperately?
