Punto (Mk2/2b) Out with the old, in with the new (my punto mk2a progress thread).

Introduction

unfortunatly on fri 13th of all days i crashed my car :(
in the wet.
i wasnt speeding but the back end slid out as i was leavin a corner(bend in the road).
tryed controling it but it started snakin.managed to avoid all the oncoming traffick.but hit a parked car with the side of mine wich caterpulted me into the curb witch ripped the tire off the rim and that spun me into a 360 spin wich i managed to controle as the back end was lifting up i stopped it from roling onto the roof.im well gutted
i realy am devistated as id just got it to look how i wanted it.
but it could have been a lot worse. i could have hit the oncoming cars or roled it but i manged to avoid both with quick thinking.
i was unhurt. just realy shook up. (n)
Re: Out with the old, in with the new (my punto mk2a progress thread)

got myself a sub (y) BUT i know this has been asked no dout plenty of times lol but iv wired up the amp/sub and fed wires threw to the footwell. now im lost how to got to the battery from there. iv read and commented on another thread which explains theres a gromit behind the battery, but how do i get to that gromit from inside the car? is it behind the glove box? also not sure where to feed the wire threw to my cd player. wires both come out inbetween the door and seats (the pastic foot panel bit) iv got the battery lead on the battery side of the car and the wire to the cd player to the drivers side any one help me on the feeding?

Re: Out with the old, in with the new (my punto mk2a progress thread)

oh as for the earth i have wired that to the boot braket bit thats just before the rear bumper. where the ring catch is for the boot. iv put it under one of the bolts which hold that. is that an ok earth? i havent sanded it tho :bang: lol

Re: Out with the old, in with the new (my punto mk2a progress thread)

ok iv installed my sub now. its only a basic active sub by edge 10" from halfords. only my first sub and im happy with it so far and its not broke in yet (apparently have to keep it low-medium volume for 30hrs before i can pump it up) but its spot on for me so far lol.

just a quick question about the active sub tho. it says in the manual there will be a little green light on when sub is working fine. which i have. when the heaad unit is on the sub works fine. but when i turn the head unit off the green light stays on. i cant here no noise from the sub tho (any buzzing or any kind of noise that you sometimes get from when speakers are on) im just wondering if this will drain the battery? iv wired it all up as it says. iv wired up the thin blue remote wire to the headunit aswell. but if i remove the remote wire the sub wont work even when head unit is on. also the green light isnt on. so is this all ok or am i best off getting a switch and put this on the remote wire?

oooohhh lowering how much ?
and tints should keep the red and black theme going :)

erm probs go 35 at back and 50 front depending on how close the wheels would rub (as i have got 20mm spacers on all round) so that realy just depends. if not will have to get arches rolled lol so will see what happens there. and yeah tints ftw for colour theme.

Re: Out with the old, in with the new (my punto mk2a progress thread)

been a while since update but not been on here a while. got on some window tints now £85 i payed and job was done better than when i payed £100 on my old punto. a place in rochdale at top of drake street called apex tinting, recomend them. only pics i have at the moment tho with tints on is from last manchester meet.

a mates now opend up his own garage too and said he will fit me some lowering springs for £30 so next week il be on the look out for some. will have a budget off £100 tho and i now the only ones arround that price are gmax, jmex, apex and iv only read about bad rep on this site about them. is there any decent ones arround that price on net anyone know?

no idea but to me it looks like some lil **** been shooting at it with a pellit gun. will get them and other lil dints tuched up but only when i move out that area. as for the lowering il have a propper brows around when the moneys there. im not going any lower than 40mm at the mo just to play safe with tyre rub. 40mm will be just clear by looks of it so wil most probs be best off with springs for now as if i can go lower i will do eventualy then i wil look at full kit

Re: Out with the old, in with the new (my punto mk2a progress thread)

right iv been thinking about the lowering and can get some 50mm for £75 but how much would it actualy drop at the rear? i think il get away with 30-40mm if they drop any more than that i think i will get some rub. if anyone knows if il get away with it then let me know. as you know i have 2cm spacers and fiat mareah alloys which are 175 55 r 15 il have to double check the profile as i cant realy cant remember lol. but im unsure of the wheels offset. does anyone know the offset of the alloys off a mareah? basicly i just need to know if il get away with 50mm drop and how much would it actualy settle at the rear? im only thinking 50mm as pics iv seen of 35mm drops realy just look pointless as they dont look no difference.

if i get a lil bit of rub (like when i go over pot holes at speed etc) then eventualy i will open the arches. but if i get a constant rub then il have no choise but to go for 35mm.

someone help pleaseeeee as i can order the 50mm now and recive them in 2days

Re: Out with the old, in with the new (my punto mk2a progress thread)

ok so iv now found some 40mm ones for same price but these are jamex. come with 5years warranty. i know these are only budget springs but all i can afford at moment. the 50mm are losprings so are also budget too but only come with 1 years warranty. any opinions?

Re: Out with the old, in with the new (my punto mk2a progress thread)

Could spend £120 and get 50/40 eibachs. Or £150 and get the kit of puntosporting2000, which includes shocks as well ;)

well got the 40mm drop, ordered last night. £75 delivered should come tomorrow. just on my budget that was so all good. was looking at eibachs but everywhere i look they where £150+ mates fitting them Friday for me so all good :D

Re: Out with the old, in with the new (my punto mk2a progress thread)

oh yes will do. but mite wait till they have settled first. will see how good they look when first on tho. i know they wont be best springs in the world but its bang on drop i want and within my current price range. will update on friday tho. oh also i think hes sorting my exhaust out so the annoying knocking noise from centre silencer will be gone. hes taking the silencer off and putting a pipe there so exhaust will sound a bit better. so will be quite a new car on fri lol. if he remembers the exhaust lol
