Panda (Classic) SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica).

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

All sounds good. Still surprised pump is main culprit. I could have told you about that solid state pump, shame I missed you asking for advice. There was a pump on the original Y10 that was fine. I tested it a lot in my experiments and it was always bang on on the gauge. I had it going into the car at one point to view it.

There have been so many things wrong, they've all been adding up but it was unfortunate I didnt take off the fuel pump from the car. It was just too dark to go underneath the car and roll about in the hay!

Just checked the plugs and theyre bang on a nice brown so dont think its gone the other way and running too rich now. Still needs tuning though.

Going to replace all the manifold gaskets next I think. Ordering suspension things now to bring it down by 40mm too. Exciting times

Just a question about turbos in general. Do normal turbo cars have dump valves? If not why? Never seen one or heard one on anything other than high performance cars. Defiantly never on a diesel?

I think all turbo's have a boost pressure release valve. New cars are so well sound insulated its hard to hear these things now. And theyre recirculating ones so they vent back into the turbo rather than to atmosphere. I heard the dump valve go off as a BMW X5overtook me on the bike the other day.

There is probably some more reliable information on the net somewhere, but from what I have found out, its safer for the turbo and helps to keep the turbo spinning reducing turbo lag. Correct me if I am wrong.

Makes sense to me, we have a few Subaru's round hear and every time they change gear it sounds like an asthmatic cough :D

Well thats because its "cool" of course! Although there are benifits to venting to atmosphere. Recirculating dump valves send warmed air back into the turbo. The engine can run hotter and lose a bit of power on a hot day. However with these loud ones you lose all boost and have to start spinning up the turbo again. Again as far as i understand!

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

Hi everyone,

Been a bit of a quiet spell for a while but today I jumped on the case again having got all the components (I had to bend the U bolts from the Escort lowering kit to fit the smaller diameter axle of the Marbella and then stress releive them. Quite hard to bend an M12 bolt!!).

Anyway, front end still up in the air but she's squatting down nicely at the back (not very lady like :p):

The lowering block isnt a perfect fit on the spring but fingers crossed it will do the job and not cause anything to break. Need to cut the U bolts shorter though, not that they come near anything but would be tidier!

More pics tomorrow hopefully of the front lowering!

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

Haha, yeah! Does look a little funny with the front up in the air. Shame about Chichi sat in the garage but she's much safer in there. Just rotting on the driveway and litterally dissolving in front of my eyes was so depressing. At the moment I am trying to find some mk1 body panels to repair the front A-Panel. Getting there though. Engine is the biggest hurdle, never built one from scratch before  Patience Dave, she'll be out again and you can complain how un-original it is then :p

Shame to hear about your engine Lewey, I guess we were both a bit optimistic in getting them to compete this year as I had quite a bit left to do when I announced it was almost finished before!! I know once I have lowered this car I will have to make sure nothing rubs and I know stuff will!!

Gona get out there and fit the front springs now anyway,

Cheers,
Si

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

Ok got a bit carried away with some wheel arch clearancing today but had the lowering springs fitted yesterday. Lowered slightly, not as much as I had thought but a lot stiffer and much more stable in the corners. Overall pleased with the suspension. Bit too soft on the rear still but I have a set of assistor springs that I can use I think.

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

Any updates on this beauty? or just enjoying the power it's giving!

Howd there!! Things are coming together nicely thanks, just tidying up all the lose ends and preparing the car for hill climbs. Carb still needs correct jetting but its in a better position than it was and I have a rough idea what it needs....i hope!

But yes I am enjoying the power, she is suprising lots of people on the motorway as she breezes from 60 to 90mph :D

More updates when there is a bit more noticeably different!
