126 Eklipze3k's Latest Toy

Introduction

Bought myself a new toy over the weekend. My phone doesn't really do it justice so will get some better pictures soon.

It's a 1983 FIAT 126 652cc Aircooled, with just shy of 31k on the clock. Not a patch of rust to be seen anywhere and the engine is beautiful. Only things needing looked at are the brakes and the choke, but she starts drives and stops which are the 3 most important things in my book (y)

It's provisionally named SR-71 for now. Drove it back from Strichen yesterday (about 1.5hrs) and couldn't stop smiling the full way, was getting looks from everyone!

I got hold of the required bits ... the wheels are off, the drums are dismantled but I need to get new flexi's as well, so he's parked up on axle stands at the moment looking a bit sorry for himself. Am hoping to get the new pipes ordered as soon as we get paid and got a few days off at the beginning of March so fingers crossed it'll all be done and he'll be rolling again by about the 11th of March :)

Brakes done, need more fluid though as it took me so long it all leaked out

Taken the headlights out as I found a guide for switching to H4 bulbs so got some nice blue tinted ones going in there, he looks funny with no eyes though ;)

MoT passed yesterday! :slayer:

Brake pipes still need looked at but spoke to the technician and he said they're solid just pitted so should last a wee while yet.

Got to order new manifolds and bolts to fit the exhaust as I sheared one of the bolts trying to take the old one off  Also going to order an engine blind kit to stop water getting in the engine bay. Really need to pull my finger out of my proverbial and fit the new accelerator and choke cables but they're a pain in the arse so I've been putting it off

I can't wait to hear this exhaust. When mine broke a pipe it sounded like a Harley. Just didn't accelerate like one.

So it actually accelerated?....harleys don't accelerate they just get louder!

I saw a Bis the other day...such a cool looking little car...but I wouldn't like to drive one on the motorway, i've seen bigger Invalid carriages! Looks rather odd against a back ground of modern cars...even my small car monsters it!

Am gonna do a before and after video for comparison. Oddly enough, there's a Harley in the carpark at work with a can that looks almost identical to the one that's going on the 126

Yes, it's currently residing in a sea of modern metal at work and is so small everyone asked me if I had driven in 'cos they couldn't see it! As for motorways, we'll see how it is at the end of May

to be fair, a 126 makes even a cinq look big!(y)

great news about the mot :D

Yeah, having it sat next to the Sei gives a great idea of perspective but also funny to think of the modern take of a small car being nearly twice the size in some cases! A new 500 is not small, it's positively huuuge!!!

Brilliant! :D

I love these wee beasties, shame they can't be picked up for peanuts any more. That one looks to be in awesome condition.

Cheers, it's got a few wee spots of rust developing - it's had a respray at some point fairly recently and I don't think it was sealed very well :(

As you can see/hear tho, the engine is in good nick as are the rest of the mechanicals, suspension and steering are great too so for a 25 year old car it's not in too bad shape really :)
