Blu's Suzuki Ignis Sport

Introduction

So been toying with getting one for a while but today i actually bit the bullet and bought one...

2004 Suzuki Ignis Sport - Its just clocked past 44k miles so not bad mileage for a 10 year old car. For them that don't know it is a 1.5vvti engine - seems a very good engine, pulls from very low down but also very revvy. It weighs in at under a tonne. Fantastic handling little thing too, really holds on through the corners, i'm impressed! Its pretty much a japanese panda 100hp except a little lighter and a litter faster out of the box. Still feels like a small car even after driving a cinq daily although i do feel like i'm sat REALLY high up!

Not much done to it, just has a SuzukiSport grill, which are supposedly pretty rare and desirable amongst suzuki people - certainly improves the look of the car no end (AC rad has been painted black so its not as noticeable through the grill too).

And it has some aftermarket alloys, not sure on the brand i didn't check with decent tyres (Toyo T1-Rs) - but i got the oem wheels with good tyres too - might keep them as winter wheels.

Oh and square plates are not standard either.

Anyhow, some pics......

The mk1 CRX is the lads new car, he bought it yesterday to replace the Iggy. Only 6 of them mk1 CRX in the UK according to howmanyleft, was a very cool car indeed. nearly all fibreglass and only weighs a bit more than a cinquecento except it has almost triple the power lol.

All in all I am most pleased - it is like a fiat though and the red is a bit flat - i shall machine polish it soon and hopefully it will come up really nice.

Massive thank you to Simon a.k.a buttflap212 for the lift and good to see you again fella ;)

Comments welcome.
Well done several hundred miles since lowering and I can report that its all good, I don't have clearance issues on full lock or anything. But sometimes, and i stress its pretty rare, the rear wheels clip the plastic arch extensions and they pop off slightly so you have to push them back on when you stop. That said I seem to be able to properly thrash down the lanes round where i live and its fine, its only happened on motorway/dual carrigeway when I am going fast fast and hit a bump that fully compresses the suspension. Not ideal but I can live with it.

Due to the rear suspension setup, it has a panhard rod, one wheel pokes more than the other now its lowered - but I have ordered an adjustable one to correct that, should arrive next week, pics to follow.

edit: Oh and i can also report that the bozo hook pretty much drags along the floor constantly now and is totally chewed up, i thiink thats +650 more jdm scene points yo!

Ooo, I forgot, I also have ventured into another jdm scene hobby - buying rare stickers aka 'slaps'. Seems like an expensive hobby, well it wouldnt be so bad but everyone who makes the slaps seems to be abroad so tends to be about $8 ish per sticker plus international postage

I do like shiny stickers though, only got one delivery so far but there is another 4 or 5 yet to arrive, I will stick them all at same time once they all arrived but here is the first couple (ordered the metallic one, the other was a freebie)

Good (phone won't let me zoom on attachments) otherwise I'd have had deduct 100 scene points...says the bloke whose car has a minus 1,000,000 scene point Edinburgh zoo sticker.

Adjustable panhard has arrived. :D

T&S is a small family run design & fabrication business. Tom will make you pretty much anything you need right upto a full chassis or roll cage. Can't thank him enough for this which is top notch quality. If you have anything you need fabricating I would give him a shout. Can see his number on the pic or go on facebook and search for a group called T&S Concepts ;)

Got another of the hard to get suzukisport grills. This one is wrapped (poorly) in cheap nasty carbon wrap.

Need to get some paint to make it red. So I guess next little project will be get paint and do the wheels and grill.. still not sure how I am gonna paint wheels but I have a few ideas, most of them are marmite ideas. You'll have to wait and see what happens

Also its time for the bi-annual service.

So, Some fully synth Shell and a HKS oil filter.

I don't think i mentioned on the thread but recently i discovered the panel air filter is the same size as a load of BMW cars, so quite recently Its had a Pipercross panel filter fitted, too recently to bother cleaning it yet anyway so not touching that this time.

Some coolant is ordered, i found a shop online that sells the genuine Suzuki stuff, the car uses Ethylene-Glycol based coolant (so like the blue stuff at Halfords) most of which are blue in UK and they need changing every 2 years. But the Suzuki stuff is green and it lasts 5 years like most OAT coolants (the pink stuff at halfords). I am yet to get an actual confirmation they can suuply and/or a dispatch notice but i am hopeful as it was much cheaper than what suzuki want.

Also ordered some gearbox oil cause, you know, can never hurt refreshing the gearbox oil.

Will wait until its all arrived though and do it all at once.

Well been a while.. Nothing much has happened really tbh - i have countless more stickers but not been sticking any on recently as they don't last as long if you stick them in really cold weather.

I got a Scangauge2 for xmas though, which if you don't know is a little thing that plugs in the OBD2 port - it can read and clear error codes, it can also become like a trip computer if you car hasnt got one - you have to tell it how big your engine is and your fuel tank and stuff, then tell it how much fuel you put in the next time you fill up after installing it and how much fuel costs on average where you live and then again on the 2nd fill up to calibrate it and then it can give you journey cost and current and average mpg values etc. I didn't want one for that though really, i wanted it mainly cause of the reading and clearing error codes and the fact that it can show you upto 4 'gauges' at a time.

So just installed it, I took the clock out the dash and cut up the housing and fitted it inside that so its permanently installed now. It has loads of colours but me being me i settled on the blue of course. So I have set it up all bar the trip computer part and messed with gauges, I really like that i now have a temperature reading on the dash (y)

Quick pic of how it looks all installed

I have been buying other things for the car but you'll have to wait and see what... Also thinking i might change the wheels sometime soon so if you want or know someone that would like some borbet A's send them my way ;) ;)

More updates soon.

I can report it sounds immense, can't really get this from a video so not bothering to upload one. But I can here groans and peolple shouting about high intake temps... but as i have that scangauge i can report one this. Took for a spin before and inlet temp was 9°C which rises very slow if stationary. With this chopped airbox in the same conditions the inlet temps cleary rise faster but as soon as I go over 15-20mph it drops straight back down and settles at 9°C again. Stays there even when thrashing. Being i live in the sticks and not in a town or city i am happy with it. Certainly breaths alot better with only a slight hesitation if you go from idle to WOT immediately, its not bad but I'll be honest and say its there. If you a trundling along at very low rpm and floor it its fine, only from idle so not really an issue.

In other news, the big thing i bought for the car was diapatched today so what this space!
