Introduction

This will be mainly pics with a brief caption.

Anyway, this is my MR2 turbo (actually a N/A MR2 which someone fitted a turbo engine, box and driveshafts into).

Note the original Rev 1 wheels

More or less a daily driver at the moment.
Well, I'm working on it. Now has Rev 3 wheels with 2 decent tyres but the fronts need new Falkens cos someone forgot to set the toe properly and they're only just about legal on the edges. This gives a fair bit of low speed tramlining, but they're OK at anything above 5mph.

I'm in the process of a suspension rebuild -- Konis, lowered 30mm, polybushes everywhere, then I'll get the geometry sorted. But so far it's only tried to kill me once, and I got it back with a quick flick of the wheel, easy peasy. Scared the poo out of the BMW coming the other way, but.........

By a long, long, way, the best car I've ever bought for less than £1500 and I paid only about a third of that!

Next pic will show the Rev 3 wheels.

Just a pic of burning bushes off suspension rubbers to put polyurethane ones on. There are a lot of polybushes needed for MR2s.........

The trick is to get something thick and solid -- here, the bottom of an old propane cylinder (I used the middle as a stand for a linisher), put some scrap wood in it, a little paraffin or white spirit, ignite, and let the heat do the work. Oh, yes, do it outside!

I use the top of the cylinder to put the fire out.

I have wanted one of these for a while, one of the few cars with a tighter engine bay than a cinq.

This one looks like a great sleeper with it being an NA, I don't think many people know how quick the turbos are. A proper giant killer even from the factory.

I'd guess polybushing them really helps, what with the weight towards the back and all that torque.

I bet its a fun car

Well, I've finished polybushing the rear end.

New engine mounts, every bush where there's a polybush available fitted, new drop links front and rear, some decent Konis with 20mm or so lowering springs, new ARB bushes front and rear.

Finally, new alternator (which means I don't have to drag a spare battery around with me). :)

Next steps, gearbox oil change, replace one of the coolant pipes with a spare one, fit very good spare radiator, coolant flush and change, paint up genuine turbo engine lid and fit and do the front end.

I'm looking at making up some decent chassis braces (aka "cancer bars") -- ordered some CDS tube today, time to light up the TIG.

Not much news. It tried to kill me about a week ago -- I put it down to diesel on the road (or over exuberance on my part) -- rear end stepped out over a foot.

Then, when I came to change the gearbox oil I discovered one of the tie bar bolts had backed out.......

Reminder to self -- buy a paint marker pen and use it!

Still a daily driver. :)

Not a lot happening -- I eventually got round to fitting the -- absurdly weak -- stock rear cross brace (I'll replace it with something sensible and of my own design, buggered if I'm paying £400 for a s/h TRD one!), and welded up some "cancer bars" (sort of chassis diagonal under braces) out of 12swg 1" CDS tube. The idea was to just use them to get a production jig off, but these look as though they'll clean up well enough to go on the car.

That's another couple of Kg I need to find a way to remove!
