Zastava Yugo T-Jet sleeper project

Introduction

After becoming disillusioned with my Uno T-Jet sleeper project because I can't find a non-rusty interesting mk1 car, I have tangented badly into this project. Basically the same idea as before which is to make a daily driver sleeper with a T-Jet engine.

I bought this from eBay:

Someone else has had a go at it and put an Uno Turbo engine in it on the original gearbox. Otherwise it is basically standard. Got some cool driving lights in the grill (period non-factory accessory). Has done 16k and seems in pretty good condition.

For those that don't know, Yugo's are based on FIAT 128s and therefore Ritmo/Stradas and some bits that I have from the Uno project and other things will fit. A bit. Lots won't.

It has independent suspension all round. Sort of. Struts with a control arm and an anti-roll bar at the front and a single transverse leaf with swinging "wishbones" at the rear with struts for damping only.

Yugos were a very popular car, but now there are only 37 taxed in the UK.
But that's the point, someone else will bid, and it'll be the seller's shill bidder, who will bid £79 (doesn't matter when) knowing lewey will bid £80. So he will win them, but not at bargain basement prices unless the shill account is reported to ebay and deactivated.

Exactly; they have already bid. Straight away like last time. Last time they bid £79 at that point. Their greed was their undoing last time, because they bid once more after I bid £80.

I bid £50 at the last moment this time (a couple of hours ago). Obviously his shill-bidding account had already bid more than that and they sold. I mean, ahem, didn't sell. Maybe he will let them go to the highest bidder this time. But probably not.

Interesting that in the last listing he said they had a 4x100 PCD. Clearly not true.

Once again they're sold to his dodgy account relisted moments later and have one bid straight away from his dodgy second account

I've reported him for listing practices but eBay apparently don't seem to care these days
I also note he's still getting bad feed back

It's very annoying that this is the guy who has wheels that I want as they are pretty rare. I am concerned that they could be in poor (unusable) condition. No description of the condition is given other than they require repainting (they weren't painted from factory) and one poor photo of one wheel. I was planning to have them restored professionally anyhow, but there are some things you can't restore. I don't think there is any point in asking a dishonest seller like him whether they are in good condition/bent etc.

I'm basically going to give these a miss to avoid heartache later.

Kudo's on this project. You've just earned my 2nd ever click of the subscribe button. No great feat itself, but in 2 years+ on here this is only my 2nd subscribe :D

Not really, other than knowing what my options are in terms of transmission and mounting thereof.

Although the project is not dead, I am in hibernation at the moment. I am getting married and buying a house and all car thoughts have been switched off until spring.

Oh, that guy who was selling the Yugo wheels has had them on at least 5 times since post #52 was made, each time winning them with his fake account. I reported him every time to eBay.

Good luck with all that...! (y)

I even tried buying them for you, on one occasion -- as I thought he might have been trying to force the price up just for you... -- but he outbid me, too.... :bang:
