The 'baby': 1999 Mazda MX5 1.6s

Introduction

Here's the sunny summer weekend toy: 1999 Mazda MX5 mk2.
My dad bought her new back in March 1999. He's since gone and bought a mk3.5. Hence this one now sits in a garage. Only done 30,000 miles to date and is near-mint!

My dad bought it as a base model car (with steel wheels), during his ownership he added:

- colour coded mud flaps
- electric aerial
- OEM windguard with rear speakers
- electric windows
- OEM 15" multispoke alloys on Kumho Ecstasport alloys
- black & red leather seat retrim

Since it's been in my hands I've added:

- Alpine iPod stereo
- JBL front components in custom baffles
- underside re-sealed
- OEM Nardi steering wheel & airbag fom a mk2.5

Still on the to-do list:
- minor amount of refurb on offside front alloy
- remote central locking
- a decent rotary polish and a small dent on a wing to be removed.
I like!!
Ive wanted an MX5 for ages and that looks bloody perfect condition!
Have you seen allanhelen s supercharged mx5?

Any ideas on what to do next, (apart from sell it to me for a half pack of hob nobs and twos on this fag? ;) )

Tom

I've just had a look at his thread now, I'm very impressed!

Sadly [for you] this one won't be for selling... (n)

In general I just want to tidy it up. Its got a few swirls here and there that you'd expect of a 13 year old car and a smallish kerb mark to one of the alloys. The plan is make sure it is fairly concourse by the time it reaches cult status in 10 or so years time.

It will probably get SORNed for the winter either this year or next. It stays in my parents' garage, which is nice and dry. It only comes out when its sunny and dry, the roof has been put up on it just once in 2 years!

It will need a cambelt service as well next year, which is always fun on a Mazda!

Haha, ok
I can see the mx5 being a future classic so i suppose concours is the way to go :p Just have a good look in the arches if its going to be dry stored, rust can still spread in dry conditions ;)

If you ever need some quick money, you know who to turn to ;)

I'll bear that in mind... maybe!

I think the MX5, like the Barchetta will be a future classic as well, simply because many of them will rust away. The mk2 does seem to have a few rust issues, particularly around the engine mount.

This one has had its underseal renewed just a month ago. There is a tiny amoun of flaking in one of the arches, but that will be a job for next summer! :)
