Peugeot 206 Roland Garros.

Introduction

got this lovely little car FREE when my dear mother got worried after the Panda broke 2 suspension bits in quick succession. She's had it lying practically unused for years, owned it since new and only been putting a few hundred miles a year on for the last few years, about 15k miles in total.

however it is showing some reassuringly Italian traits. The speedo doesn't work and today for no apparent reason it just would not start, no fuel, no spark, no nothing. Took some bits off, changed the crank sensor, still didn't start..then it did again. Then it stoppped. Wouldn't start again. Then it did again.:bang:
so much for the nice modern reliable low mileage stress free runaround.
Very nice when it's working, quiet, full leather, electric everything, aircon, glass roof and a full new set of snow tyres now too.
looks in great condition

No suprise its packed up though only doing a few hundred miles a year, have you checked the battery?

Battery already suffered, gave up and was replaced last year. Can't be much wrong with it, spent all day turning the engine over every time we poked something to see if it had helped and still sounded healthy at the end. Running fine again at the minute so we'll see if we randomly fixed it.

Mate had the coil pack die on his took an age of diagnose he even changed the Head Gasket

Definatly try changing it for a known working one
well, it's running OK for now anyway. Know what you mean about the coil packs, this one was changed last year though so hopefully alright as it's not a terribly cheap bit if it is dying (got the receipt for the last one:eek:)

Well, it doesn't get much love this one, just a driver while I tinker with the Panda, but it got a pressie today and to say I am chuffed is an understatement:

Set of 4 brand spanking new Fox alloys and tyres from my now much beloved local Halfords for the princely sum of £57.50!!!!!!!! Going on tomorrow hopefully but I am so happy with that. Still got the winter tyres on but I am suddenly driving to work again and I was going to need to change them (walked all last summer so never bothered as it wasn't getting used.) so that's saved me a fortune.

Whats this  I find you flirting with French floozies in the non-fiat section.
Whats the world coming to :shakehead: However I'm relieved to hear its speedo doesnt work. It sounds like it has the correct sensibilities.

Not flirting terribly well with it, had the speedo sensor sitting in the garage for a couple of months now and in the meantime I've changed the shocks and springs on the Panda, wheels, twice, extra gauges, carb, twice, distributor, windscreen out and in again, painted tailgate, painted bonnet, changed door hinge..... Meanwhile the 206 that I drive every day has had one oil change since I got it, an exhaust and cat, and new wheels and still no speedo. In getting on for 2 years.

Well, speedo's worked a bit. Put about 3000 miles on it! Developed a habit of missing occasionally on a light throttle then catching itself and revving slightly before settling back down. Then the other day it died completely in a queue of traffic. Very reluctant to restart, then decided 3-4k revs was a sensible idle speed most of the rest of the way home. Stupid car!
Chasing the misfire so far changed plugs, and coil pack as most common suspects for issues with no change. Also swapped out crank sensor with no change as I had one lying. Reading around the net (dangerous I know) it seems most peoples experience of this sort of problem on Pugs is chasing the fault all around the electrical system, usually ending up at the ecu, and often still failing to cure it. I don't have the time, money or know how to start down that road really and I'm mighty tempted to throw it away and find something a tad more Italian. Any bright ideas out there?

if you have the 16 pin connector but its not OBDII then its more than likely EOBD - i would be surprised if that autel reader i posted can't read it if you have the 16pin connection in the car.

Hmmm, probably more at home here eh:eek:
Might take a look since it's relatively cheap. Will it read an '02 Seicento then? You know, just in case?;) Not that I'm looking for an excuse to dump the Pug or anything....

Stop the french car hate!

I love 205's and would have the right one in a flash - just this time I wouldn't lend it to my cousin so he couldn't smash into the back of queueing traffic - again!

The only new cars I'm remotely interested in are the new rear wheel drive Twingo and the new C1

Saying that I didn't trust my work 207 as far as I could throw it, especially disliked the random revving - which turned out to be the whizzy electronic throttle gubbins. One good thing about a company vehicle - drive into the main dealer tell them to fix it and not have to pay the bills....

k, 8v or 16v and what capacity? so i can have a look around
Thanks, hunt away!(y) Its a 1.6 8v with the 'pre plex' electronics. And no it doesn't have the troublesome Sagem coil pack. Previously fitted and replacement both Bougicord with Bosch plugs (Sagem/NGK combo is a common source of issues apparently)

Ok I agree with you, from a young age I always had a soft spot for a 205 GTi but trying to find an unmolested one is impossible.

Rear engined Twingo does sound cool but I'm not sure on the styling, plus if its anything like my Twingo I certainly don't want it, the only redeeming thing about my frenchie is the turbo which can make it a fun drive, everything else :yuck:
