just bought a 05 suzuki swift

Introduction

well i thought i would start looking for a car so my dad said lets go to plymouth and have a look we went to about 10 different garages but there was nothing, so we came back to our town and seen a suzuki swift 1.3 28thousand miles for sale for £5499 i only had 5k the boot does not stay up so they going to sort that and it has a couple of scratches on the side with should tcut out, my dad has had a 55 reg one and now has a 57 reg one and loves it, i asked how much he would give for my y reg punto and he said 1k so i had enough for £5200 so we test drove the and i offered him £5200 he went off and came back and said we cant do that but i can offer you 1 years road tax so we said deal. i should be picking it on wednesday or thursday i been saving like mad for a car and didnt even think about a swift i wanted a new punto or fiesta but i seen this one and liked it. heres a few pics
you want to come down this way and look, theres stupid prices. i just did a search on auto trader and a 55 reg swift 51,646 miles same as the one i bought, and they want £5999 thats nearly double the miles. thats the only car that comes up on my search so i know its not a lot. and punto's are a lot different to swifts you cant compare them.

sounds like you were just going to the wrong places.

just looked on ebay and you could of got a 06 plate multijet grande punto for £4100.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2006-FIAT-PUN...ms=65:3|66:2|39:1|240:1318|301:0|293:2|294:50

in lancashire, quite a long way from cornwall....

looks like a nice car though! think i prefer it in red like someone elses on here, but then i'm no fan of silver cars, but even still it does look very nice. does sound expensive but i've never bought a newish car, so don't know what's expensive anyway.

swifts are meant to be highly rated though, and probably one of the few modern cars which doesn't look fat.

just looked on autotrader they tend to be priced around the £5000 mark.

Plus as well Beau that was an auction that could have really gone for anything could have gone for less, couldve gone for more, it isnt an accurate representation of the market, if they were all going for 4100 it would be more fair but they dont/arent

That car is also 400+ miles away from him, you would need to go on autotrader et al to cars locally to him to get a more accurate representation, a random car from anywhere in UK in an auction isnt it

thats on ebay i bought my from a garage so you are going to pay more, i didntt want to sell my car private and buy one private your comparing it to different things. as i said before i live in cornwall and cars are more exspensive down here you found a car in lancashire 44989 miles which is not low and u cant trust anyone on ebay as well. and i have not got a punto so why are u searching for them. if i bought my car private i would of got it cheaper but you cant trust anyone and u dont get a warranty.

maddog my parents have a 57 reg red swift and they have had a 55 reg white swift both are and were good cars they never had a problem with them. i do think they hold there money better them some other cars because u look on auto trader and i cant find one close to me with the same milage and year for that money.

AppleSei and i dont even have a grande punto so u cant compare.

glad you like the car,

I was looking at getting one of these but ended up getting a GP.

I had one of these when my GP was in at the dealer, although i used to want one of these when i had one for 3 days it put me off. I thought in the interior was dull and drab. Also thought it was quite tinny. When i closed the door it was like tin.

I was glad to get my car back!!!!

I was disapointed as I really fancied one of these and only chose the GP as it was cheaper and i couldnt afford the Swift sport

Swift is basically an OK car. Built to a price again as usual. My eldest has a 1.5 which she worships, but there have been a few "Fiat" type things she wanted seen to. No paint on the underside edge of the doors, the glovebox lid crooked and wouldnt close properly  (very Fiat) and the dashboard dropping on the drivers side, the latter has happened 3 times now, she's fed up of letting them try to fix it permanently. The engine is sweet if not very inspiring, revvy little VVT motor, not especially good on fuel averaging about 40 Mpg and she drives it with empathy. Another poor finish item is that the car is a metallic red on and 08 plate, the colour of the bumpers has never been the sam as the steel painted bits... but that isnt uncommon on many budget makes. Boot space is worse than the GP having a dummy floor. Interior is "basic" nowt flash at all, but the car does seem like it wont ever let her down mechanically.

They're are a good fun little car not driven a 1.3 but apparently its up there with the 1.5 until 4k when the 1.5 does its Vtec bit and there is only about 10bhp in it overall.

Make sure it's had all the recalls done and they are numerous. Check the stickies here http://www.swiftowners.co.uk//modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=3

Also my car (y) https://www.fiatforum.com/members-m...er-bullets-replacement-caution-pic-heavy.html

If i'm honest it has not been as reliable as expected but its been a lot more fun than I expected...so swings and rounderbouts get it on a back road and give it some stick and it has a great chassis.

Also 1.3s are meant to be good on fuel about 45 minimum whereas most with the VVT do about 38-42.
