just bought a 05 suzuki swift

Introduction

well i thought i would start looking for a car so my dad said lets go to plymouth and have a look we went to about 10 different garages but there was nothing, so we came back to our town and seen a suzuki swift 1.3 28thousand miles for sale for £5499 i only had 5k the boot does not stay up so they going to sort that and it has a couple of scratches on the side with should tcut out, my dad has had a 55 reg one and now has a 57 reg one and loves it, i asked how much he would give for my y reg punto and he said 1k so i had enough for £5200 so we test drove the and i offered him £5200 he went off and came back and said we cant do that but i can offer you 1 years road tax so we said deal. i should be picking it on wednesday or thursday i been saving like mad for a car and didnt even think about a swift i wanted a new punto or fiesta but i seen this one and liked it. heres a few pics
Swift is basically an OK car. Built to a price again as usual. My eldest has a 1.5 which she worships, but there have been a few "Fiat" type things she wanted seen to. No paint on the underside edge of the doors, the glovebox lid crooked and wouldnt close properly  (very Fiat)
I have that....i'm over it now..
and the dashboard dropping on the drivers side, the latter has happened 3 times now, she's fed up of letting them try to fix it permanently.
Don't have that but the vents on the top of the dash are lifting...CBA to get it fixed
The engine is sweet if not very inspiring, revvy little VVT motor, not especially good on fuel averaging about 40 Mpg and she drives it with empathy.
I think they must have changed something on the face lift cars then..notice the 1.5 went down a tax band since mine was built if I drive in my usual manner I.e. heavy footed to and from town it does 40mpg but will easily do 45-47 on a trip but engine will be looser with 31k on it also mine has a hard edged growl to it if pushed but my exhaust is older too so baffles could have said goodbye. Another poor finish item is that the car is a metallic red on and 08 plate, the colour of the bumpers has never been the sam as the steel painted bits... but that isnt uncommon on many budget makes.
I have that too
Boot space is worse than the GP having a dummy floor.
Older cars like mine and the OPs' car don't have a dummy floor but yes boot space is smaller because the car is 30 centimetres/12 inches shorter
Interior is "basic" nowt flash at all, but the car does seem like it wont ever let her down mechanically. I agree the engines just feel strong mine will happily spin at 6k plus all day long without losing any oil

My thoughts on that..

i have only had it a couple of days and im really enjoying it i love the colour and the in side, its pretty nippy for a 1.3 the only prob i got now is when i start the engine the grindes a little i have phoned the garage and they going to have a look on monday, and my breaks are squeaking so will tell them about that as well, its all under warranty so i wot have to pay anything.

i will post some more pics when i get chance.

Squeaky brakes is a known fault the old compounds of brake pads used to eat the discs and be squeaky while doing so at 28k it might be time for new pads and possibly discs I had both done at 29k (my pads were 75% worn and had destroyed the front discs) run your finger over the disc and check for a ridge around the edge which unless your car has been retrofitted with the new compound pads it will most probably have.
