Hi,

Has anyone had any experience of the above?

I posted last week about the Marea that I had just bought, needing a service. Have not got around to arranging service as yet but at the weekend I noticed a very slight oil leak. Not sure exactly where it is coming from although there seemed to be a bit around the oil filter.

Have been keeping a regular check on oil levels, both engine and gearbox (at least I think it was the gearbox, the manual was not explicit), and last night they both seemed OK.

Girlfriend has just called to tell me that an odd light has appeared on the dashboard, the manual deciphers this as "High Automatic Gearbox Oil Temperature" and suggests that the car is taken to the nearest Fiat garage.

I want to avoid a big bill if necessary so would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions as to what the problem could be and how it might be rectified in either the short run or the long run.

Thanks in advance.

First of all I'd check the oil level, and if the mileage is high maybe it's time to replace it:)!Of course excluding any gearbox problem...[^]

Thanks for the reply Enzo.

Have been carefully monitoring oil levels and still seem fine. There is definitely some leakage somewhere though, my suspicion is the gearbox. The car is an automatic hence the manuals don't really say much, other than take it to a Fiat Garage! Does anyone have any experience of auto gearbox problems and, if the worst comes to the worst, the cost of replacement units?

Re the warning light, GF misread the manual. It is the light on the immediate left of the panel, a red one that looks like a car with its bonnet up. A closer inspection of the manual says that if the light comes on you must stop the car, switch the engine off then on again, and this should do the trick. If not, then visit the nearest Fiat Garage! The problem did clear immediately although it has reoccurred once since.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.
