Hi, i have a Fiat marea 1.9 td not the jtd model, now the car runs ok as it should but is started to knock top end every so often, now in the last 12months the injectors have been reconditioned and the solnoid on the injector pump replaced

When the knocking starts it only happens for a few seconds anyway i think i have the problem on the first injector sensor as when i unplug the little wire from the injector the knocking is constant, is there anyway to bypass this wire sensor to stop this problem? as when the injectors were done the sensor was only checked OK and refitted, the car is pretty bad on diesel possibley 35mpg power is good and starting is good

any advise anyone and any advise on increasing power bhp (piggy back?)

THANKS GUYS!

Hi,

If you disconnect the 1st injector needle lift sensor the ECU loses its timing signal and therefore can't control the timing advance. hence the knocking. If its intermittent it could well be the advance solenoid or a problem in the pump. A live diagnostic might be a good idea, as you can see whats actually going on if it happens..

Also check the wiring to the advance solenoid, especially at the engine loom connector near the battery..

The TD100 cannot be remapped like the JTD. only way is to mess with the boost and fuelling by tweaking, not recommended unless you know what you're doing. 100 brake is plenty power anyway. you should be getting better mileage than that, around 45 would be more realistic unless you keep the boot down the whole time..

Hi thanks for that info, the solonoid your reffering to is it screwed into the pump that is constantly ticking once the ignition is turned on as i also replaced this around the same time i did the injectors, going by what you said is correct that the knock noise is constant once the injector is unpluged, could i unplug the injector and bridge the wires going to the ecu? just to stop this problem, any ideas, would this improve MPG? as of power its good enough.

Thanx

yes its screwed into the pump. you can hear it ticking when you turn on the ignition, but it should stop after a few seconds. You can't bridge the injector sensor, as there will be no timing info to the ECU then, and the engine will constantly knock and run badly. If the fault is happening often enough, go to a decent fiat or independent garage and get a diagnostic done as it may well show something. And you can see live timing data etc. Other things to check are the EGR system and turbo/wastegate, as faults here could also cause engine knocking. As regards the poor mpg, have the air and fuel filters been changed recently ??

OK bridging the wire is out then, this problem is ever now and then i could drive for days with no problem then i could be in trafic or just started the engine and you would here the knock, also sometimes as your driving you would feel it misfire/hessition for a couple of seconds and then go away,

thanks for the info

check crank pulley ,if it has rubber insert they wear and give all the problems you have. I had diesel mech look at my td75 he said injector problems.had them cleaned ,still had knocking. found out on ff about pulley fixed it myself.thank god for this forum.
