I have just bought a Marea Weekend SX (2001 Y reg UK model).

I was familiarising myself with all the controls etc. and went looking for the fuel cut-off reset switch, which I expected to find underneath the front passenger's seat.

There is a hole in the floor, and some wiring coming out, ending in a white connection block, but no switch.

Does this sound like the circuit for the switch? Why would someone remove the switch? Could this be a way of bypassing a faulty safety circuit?

The white connection block is for the heated seats if fitted. Your car is a SX and there wont have them fitted. So you will have a connector that doesn't go to anything but you have the wiring for it.

Anyway, your Marea is a MK2 since its 99 onwards, therefore the fuel cut off switch is located to the left of the passengers side foot well. Under glove box close to the door. Not under the passengers seat anymore. Hope this helps.

Thanks, JoskeJTD. (y)

I have now found the button, and can stop worrying on that score.

Thank you again Fiat Forum. The Marea would not restart after getting its 3rd battery in the 11 years I've owned it (bit dissapointed with the Yuasa that just died, it wasnt cheap).
Exide premium on now and the car runs again after resetting the fuel cut off switch which was exactly where this thread says it is.
what this didnt tell me was why it tripped???

Italian self-test electrics. Or someone kicking/bumping the switch.

:)Thats a stereotype, todays Fiats are pretty good all round including electrics. One of the partners at MGRS said that putting a battery charger on can trip the switch and he should know.
One thing this made me do was go onto the MGF forum and find out where it is on the TF. I am hoping that now I'm ready i will never need it
