I did a search but couldn't find anything specific.

I plan to refit my Sony CDX-CA650 HU to my Marea Weekend and I understand that I could possibly get an adapter that allows me to use the steering wheel mounted audio controls on the Sony HU. I tried looking on the Autoleads website but it is pretty vague and doesn't seem to quote specific parts or prices.

Has anyone done this and if so, did it work and how much is the convertor ?

I do have two Sony remotes lurking in boxes somewhere, one is the wired stalk and the other is an IR keypad. Neither are fantastic and would prefer to use the wheel mounted controls.

Thanks in advance,

To schizophrenically answer my own question, upon further investigation, the PC9-105 is for Marea's built beween 03/97 - 06/99 and the PC9-128 is for Marea's built from 06/99 onwards, which would be mine as it is a V plate built 15/12/99.

I shall give this a go and let you all know of the results :)

Hello, I recently put one of the autoleads adaptors on my weekend(2001) for my JVC. rather foolishly got the adaptor for mareas up to 99, had to rewire it a bit but got it working. the problem with mine was that the remote wires from the steering wheel were in block c on the back of the stereo and the adaptor only catered for iso blocks a and b. so my point is check the pinout of your stereo your replacing(if you have it) if the remote wires are in the c block the audioleads adaptor for mareas up to 99 won't fit, or will need modification, which i wouldn't recommend as although mine works it is a tad confused (function down and volume down are on the wrong side).

all the best
Rob

Cheers mate :)

I think mine will be pretty straight forward as the Sony HU has a 3.5mm jack remote socket, so no confusing blocks or anything. Just take the lead from the controls, connect the adapter and plug straight into the HU. The PC9-128 is for Marea's built after 06/99 and mine was first registered in 12/99, so I should be OK

Or so I hope ;)

If all else fails, I have the Sony Remote Stalk but I tried fitting that when I had the Bravo HGT, and couldn't find anywhere suitable to place it. I also have the IR Remote but you might as well use the front panel !! I guess it's good for these "sound off" events that the youngsters like to go to so they can "pump up the volume" without getting back in the car ;)

Prices for these Autoleads parts seem to vary quite a bit. This particular lead (PC9-128) has been seen from £20 to almost £50 in some shops !!!

Suffice to say, I have the £20 tagged for purchase ;)

my JVC has a 3.5 jack for the remote aswell, the c block stuff was how the remote was wired up to my old stero (standard fiat thing)

Ah, I see, hence the need to be bloody certain which connection I have. Well, I pick the car up tomorrow, so i guess I'll be ripping the HU out next weekend for a gander. I've found a wiring diagram of the adapter so hopefully it will all make sense :)

Thanks again :)

I fitted a sony mp3 cd changer to a 1999 marea weekend to the std head unit and got the steering wheel adapter from addacdchanger.co.uk
a perfect fit with full function capability
also seen a good range at caraudiosecurity.com

I have just popped in to a local ICE dealer who tells me that contrary to what I have been told, the Autoleads parts I need to convert the Marea's wheel remote to my Sony HU are PC9-105 and PC99-SON, which he retails as a package for £35 inc. VAT.

I have ordered these and will pick them up next Thursday, and then let you know the result.

EDIT: Ok, it appears the guy at this local ICE dealer was testiculating (talking ******) about these leads and it is the PC9-128 I need and I have now tracked one down at Norfolk Car Audio and am collecting it tomorrow morning, total cost £30.80 inc. VAT.

As before, a progress report will follow :)

cool cheers (y)

Ok, the lead has been purchased and fitted and I'm pleased to report that everything works perfectly :) :) :)

The lead is more of a loom, with 3 ISO inputs and 2 ISO outputs and the Sony 3.5mm jack remote connector. There is a small black box in the loom that I assume does the jiggery pokery communication thing between controls and HU. The only drawback is that this extra bunch of cables takes up more of the precious room behind the HU and took some wiggling to get to fit properly, albeit a bit tight.

Anyway, for anyone owning a Marea with steering wheel controls and wanting to fit a 3rd party HU and retain the remote functionality, these leads seem to do the job very well. Just make sure you buy the right one. The best way to determine which one is correct is to have a look at the cables that hook up to the rear of the factory HU. The Marea seems to have either a regualr 8 pin ISO block C, just like block A & B or the post 06/99 models have a 20 pin ISO Block C. It's very easy to tell and once you know this, you can identify the correct lead for your HU.

So, in conclusion, if you have a SONY HU with a 3.5mm remote connector which accepts the SONY RMX2S or RMX4S SONY remote, and want to hook it up to your Marea's steering wheel remote, you need PC9-105 for 8 pin remote ISO's usually found in pre 06/99 Marea's, and PC9-128 for 20 pin remote ISO's usually found in post 06/99 Marea's.

For other makes of HU, please check for the specific part at http://www.autoleads.co.uk/downloads/01CarAudFit1.pdf

Hope that helps :)

If you have any questions when fitting, just drop me a line.

BTW, is it just coincidence you come from Bristol with an avatar like that LOL !! ;)
