My engine occasionaly hesitates/stutters, this can be either accelerating or constant speed. It appears to be similar to fuel starvation and can normally only be corrected by changing down a gear. Normally it happens after driving for a while (greater than 60 miles) but it is now happening sooner (30+ miles).
The ECU light comes on intermittently and appears to follow no pattern. The hesitation can occur when the ECU light is present or not.
A few weeks ago the ECU FAULT was diagnosed by the local garage (now closed) as a temp sensor or oxygen (lambda) sensor fault. As it was cheap I replaced the temp sensor (the one on the cylinder head) - no change. Was this the correct temp sensor as I believe there is an air temp sensor as well? Is it likely do be the lambda sensor causing the problem? The 1.6 has 2 lambda sensors at £67 + VAT. I'm loath to guess at replacing one
Any ideas?
