Don't you think diesels (even Fiat diesels) are a bit overpriced at the moment? I know the fuel costs are cheaper (and there are tax benefits for company car drivers), but the engines are more complicated so the servicing costs are higher and (purely andecdotally) seem to have more problems? And of course, petrols are more fun to drive (IMHO)

If you compare 1.8 Marea Weekends with 1.9JTDs on autotrader (which have similar performance?), the JTDs seem to have at least a £1000 premium and the fuel economy difference (32ish vs 42ish?) isn't that huge, so I'd imagine you'd have to do some serious mileage to make it worthwhile.

Obviously comparing a 2.0 petrol with a 2.4JTD is a different story, given the thirsty nature of the petrol, but finding a 2.4 seems really difficult (don't seem to be any around at the moment) and as such they seem to attract an even bigger premium?

Appreciate that it's not just about costs as a diesel will produce less C02 (although it produces more sulphur etc.), but it just seems that in cars generally at the moment people are buying diesels because it's fashionable, not because its the best choice for them?

Quick update - JCS in Kegworth have the part in, have fitted it, and all seems fine. Having estimated £150+VAT on Thursday, the actual cost is £93 + VAT, which came as a pleasant shock - I'd heard they were good but didn't realise they were THAT good!

Highly recommended.
