Hay! looks like i'll be joining you guys!

Hello all you Marea owners, i don't as yet have a Marea but i sure am getting one i love the look of the Estate!

my poor uno has to go because my mother is being a pain in the ass and not letting me spend any more money on the car

so rather than be stuck with a boring almost standard 999 uno i'm going to upgrade to a Marea 155 HLX 2.0L.

i just wanted to know what i should look for when i start looking to buy one and i'm a little confused to if this model is a petrol or a diesel please help!

what are your opinions on this car? best 0-60 times? top speed? i really want to gain as much knolage as i can.

Cheers,
Ryan Edge

i did goolge it and parkers... did say if it was petrol or diesel tho

quinn-direct quoted me £1136, its because its an estate, they wont let me have a 1.8 saloon but a 2.0 estate...well thats fine lol

Re: Hay! looks like i'll be joining you guys!

2.0 155 is a 5 cylinder 20 valve petrol fuelled monster. They are really quite quick - 8.5 secs quoted to 60, top speed quoted at 135.

You notice how quick it is when you drop to third at 60, pull out, floor it to overtake and watch the car next to you look like it's hammered it's brakes on!

Sound awesome, too. Expect 30mpg if you're gentle on it.

Mine's an R reg 147bhp 2.0 20v saloon, cost not a lot and I love it.

Beware the cam belt change though - that's a big engine in a small bay, so its expensive!

Drop down tail gate is quite a party piece! You considered a much cheaper, much more economical JTD?

Re: Hay! looks like i'll be joining you guys!

Noticed in another thread you asking about JTD remaps.. Be aware only the JTD can be remapped, not the tractor-like TD. Angel Tuning tend to only do cars upto 5 years old, however they can do any JTD and with a bit of begging I'm sure they will waiver the 5 year limit.

The engine is strong so don't be put off by high mileage, 100k miles would be about average - remember they are diesel estates so likely to have been used as such. I reckon mine has done the 'booze cruise' several times.

Also worth you checking the prices for things that may need replacing - I was going to change my brakes for the larger 155 version however that would be a jump from £20 to nearly £40 per disc and similar increase for the pads..

The cambelt change for a 1.9JTD - which I would get done no matter when the last owner claims it was done - would be around £200.

Any other questions?

Re: Hay! looks like i'll be joining you guys!

thank you for the post hellcat, i'm pretty sure i want the 2.0 now i was considering the diesel but the price difference on the insurance and on the actual car is so minimal it seems pointless me getting a diesel.

if i can any real problems i can always sell it on and get a smaller car again... hopfully i wont pickup a lemon though.

oh and the way i drive my uno atm i get about 27mpg so remembering i wont need my foot nailed to the floor in the 2.0 to get the same performance it should be alright, that or i will just have to cut down on my random cruises.

Cheers,
Ryan Edge

Ah, but with all the extra power (110 bhp more than you have now?) I bet you don't drive at the same pace! I tend to accelerate quite hard up to cruising pace, just for the noise and the shove in the back

Original was 147bhp, facelift was 155bhp*

Can't see why you should only be able to get insured on the slower car

*I think.

155bhp 2.0 20v - 30mpg if you're gentle.

105bhp 1.9JTD - 50mpg if you're rough.

20mpg less fuel used, and cheaper fuel if you're going to run the petrol on optimax which you should for a performance car. You might not see much difference in the purchase cost and the insurance cost but you'll feel it in the servicing, fuel and repairs
