Hey guys just registered for a bit of info....

I've had to remove the engine from my mums 2001 marea. its a 1.6 16v.

I sourced a replacement from a 2000 Brava
turns out theirs a slight different in both engines even tho there from the same age of fiat...

On the Marea there is a pick on the inlet cam sprocket
And the Oil filler neck is completely different ?
Was able to swap the camshaft sensor over and both sprockets to the brava engine time up ok and continue swapping over all other bits but obviously the filler neck is a problem......

Cant post any pics yet as this is my first post :)

any help would be appreciated

Sure you didn't pick a pre OBDII engine if the 2001 was OBDII engine?

They have different internal geometry even if they externally look the same (short vs long stroke).

Hi the Cars a early 2001 marea, and the doner engine is from a 2000 brava.

As far as i can see the brava engine had different cam sprockets, and i pickup on the intake cam...everything from the 2001 engine swapped across to the 2000 engine no problem except the oil filler neck.

I had a look online before i got the engine and all i could find was the marea got its 1.6 16v engine from the bravo/brava so thought that i be able to use a bare block from a bravo/brava?

also looking there seems to be 102bhp & 98bhp 1.6 16v
So is that the long & short stoke engine?

Also when looking for engines there was one that had plug leads and the other had pencil style coils

Down to the most important point will it run with the management off the marea?

thanks

I got the pre OBDII on my brava and the oil filler neck is just pushed down on the receiver in the block and screwed to the intake runners with two screws. One tube from the neck goes into the intake before butterfly valve and one goes to the plastic intake (basically PCV setup).

They share the same engine, just that 2001 OBDII/emission standards came and that engine config carried over to stilo.

The pre OBDII had no timing sensor on inlet cam, the OBDII has one (the mk1 before faclift also had cam sensor).

Pencil style coils were on stilo I guess? (checked, yep it does)

As for engine management, try it? It's still FIRE with almost the same geometry.

Is the neck wrong shape or what? Why cant you use the neck from donor engine?

the ODBII filler neck is completely different to the pre-ODBII filler neck that is the only thing that is stopping me putting it back in as i still need to source that part......... as far as i can see the only timing sensors is on the crankpulley and up at the intake pulley nothing on the flywheel so time will tell....gonna get a look at the local dismantlers for the filler neck i need tomorrow and will get the engine put back in the next few days....
the donor engine was a bare engine, so im using all the stuff of the engine that was fitted to the car as standard..... i'll be able to post a link for the 2 pics showing the blocks in a couple of posts

Yep, the sensor on the timing end is low and usually fails as it is the lowest sensor on the engine. Nothing on flywheel like on the new modular engine.

When you can, I'd love to see pictures of the difference.

Btw the short stroke pre OBDII is better engine mechanically.

Ok, so they changed the angle and the other one is missing the seal.

theres a 13mm headed long bolt that goes the top of the pre ODBII engine and its the wrong angle for my ODBII filler neck to fit am hoping theres an abundance of 1.6 16V fiats at the scrappys tomorrow lol

as far as looks go the bottom end where the dipstick and filler neck go are the only visible differences and all the ODBII stuff bolted onto pre-odbII engine fine
