driveshaft nut? access..!!

Hi,

got a split CV boot - nice simple job.., ( JTD weekend)

booked a day off work,

unstaked the hub-nut,

progress stopped;
I can't get a socket to fit the thing...

the 36mm socket I had was an "impact one" too thick in the wall..didn't fit inside the Hub to access the nut's Hex

I've got another 36mm elsewhere,
arrived with that an hour later.. STILL TOO BIG

anybody got any bright ideas..( ive edged a vernier caliper near the flats it's almost certainly 36mm)
next step is to machine around 2mm off the wall of the socket..,
seems a bit DRASTIC though

@franglais - have you done a job like this..??

Charlie

@varesecrazy Charlie, tell me the max outer diameter. I think 36mm is the same size as the Panda, my socket might fit.
Text me first thing tomorrow and I'll measure mine. Got a free period tomorrow am, so could pop across, but must be back by11am.

Sadly, Panda is 32mm, not got a 36, only a 38mm with thick walls.

Re: driveshaft nut? access..!!

nope, i never done anything like that. when i removed the front drivetrain from the old marea, i took it off at the gearbox. I knew Steve20vt or Jose would have done this though.
thanks for sharing, good to know in advance that it's a ball ache.

Re: driveshaft nut? access..!!

sorry to dig up the old thread, but @varescrazy , can you tell me where you got a new hub nut from, I have a split CV boot too, and the only place i can find a new nut, is by buying a new bearing.
otherwise, i have to fork out on a cone to slide the boot over the hub with the brake disk taken off.
cheers

Your nearest Fiat dealer?
Or here: https://www.fiatdalys.lt/en/catalog/...GS/axle-shafts

Best to go back to the vehicle selection and follow it through to ensure you order the correct one. I just guessed which vehicle might be yours.
Thanks franglais thanked for this post

Hi Allan. In the end I 'bottled it'.

And just used one of the split type you wrap around . Then bond the seam shut..

Tend to last a few years..

I did buy the stretchy boots.. but have yet to use them...
