Hi, :)

got a split CV boot - nice simple job.., ( JTD weekend)

booked a day off work,

unstaked the hub-nut,

progress stopped; :(
I can't get a socket to fit the thing...

the 36mm socket I had was an "impact one" too thick in the wall..didn't fit inside the Hub to access the nut's Hex:idea:

I've got another 36mm elsewhere,
arrived with that an hour later.. STILL TOO BIG :bang:

anybody got any bright ideas..( ive edged a vernier caliper near the flats it's almost certainly 36mm)
next step is to machine around 2mm off the wall of the socket..,
seems a bit DRASTIC though:confused:
franglais - have you done a job like this..??

Charlie

sorry to dig up the old thread, but @varescrazy , can you tell me where you got a new hub nut from, I have a split CV boot too, and the only place i can find a new nut, is by buying a new bearing.
otherwise, i have to fork out on a cone to slide the boot over the hub with the brake disk taken off.
cheers

Hi Allan. In the end I 'bottled it'.

And just used one of the split type you wrap around . Then bond the seam shut..

Tend to last a few years..

I did buy the stretchy boots.. but have yet to use them...

Dealer indeed, but did you try www.mister-auto.fr as well?

yep, thanks, i have tried the big 3 online shops, oscaro.com mister-auto.fr and piecesauto24.com, only the shop portland bill found has just the piece, but paying more for postage than for the piece itself is not very tempting, and i can order a whole bearing for nearly the same price, nut included. I will be in Dijon sometime soon no doubt, i shall phone the FIAT dealership and see if they can help.
thanks everyone.

Have a look at ePER on top of this page for the part number of this nut, makes it easier to search....(Ebay..??)
Maybe buy a few, because, officialy they are intended for using only once.
I had about 5 of them, but gave them away recently, as I don't own a Fiat anymore...

standard procedure right there, i never buy anything without consulting Eper.
ebay ruffled my feathers far too many times, i don't shop there anymore, plus, everything far too chinesium knock off for my liking.
