Hello,

I've just bought a Marea Saloon 1.6 SX, and am thinking of having the front brakes upgraded. I've read the guide here, but as a newbie about cars have two questions:

what are the best discs I can put please?

What are their dimensions: 257 x 20? I'm assuming the first figure is the diameter, and the second is its thickness (in mm)?

Is it worth upgrading the back brakes too, or are they good enough as they are?

THanks for your help!

Hi

the only real upgrade for the Front brakes would be a set of Brembo calipers from a fiat coupe turbo (and they cost a fortune).

Im guessing yours has solid discs as only the Weekend SX had vented discs

so that's a good starting upgrade all you need is the Caliper Carriers From a Marea Weekend which will allow you to fit Vented Front discs

The Best thing to do with the Rear is swap the rear axel with a HLX unit with discs

Hi, thanks, that's really helpful. From what I could find online the front discs of the Marea can be of two dimensions: with a 257 or a 284 diameter (this latter only for the 2.0L 20v version). Can you please confirm I can fit the 284 discs on my Marea 1.6 SX? Thanks again!

The 2.0 20v cars have unique hubs and calipers so they won't fit .
If you going to change the hubs it would be easier to get some Coupe 20v Turbo hubs and some Brembo calipers

Mmm, I've had a look adn as you say the Brembo calipers cost a bomb. If I were to decide to buy them anyway, I'll probably go with your first suggestion: buy caliper carriers from a Marea Weekend and vented discs (257!).

Thanks again for helping
