Hello everyone. I am a newbie from Caracas.

I own a 1.6 2002 petrol Marea with automatic gearbox. For sometime past it has been flashing the warning light of the gearbox. A mechanic scanned the car and there was no gearbox failure. Same for the ecu that I also had checked. I was told the the problem was with the wiring (Cables loose, cut, or short). This may be true as an electrician managed to correct the failure for about one day. That is, he must have handled the problem area without realizing it. However all this gets me into the undesirable customer class.

I am seriously considering purchasing the Fiat tester but as an accountant I lack the experience on how to use it or if I need it at all. There are the modules that need to be used in conjunction with the tester and there I am completely lost. Can some one point me in the right direction?. If necessary I will become my cars electrician. Thank you.

Hi, and welcome,
the MULTI ECU SCAN software is very user friendly,
and the cables are relatively inexpensive too,

search the MES website to see what you will require to communicate with your autogearbox,,
is it actually an auto / a CVT / or a semi-auto ..??,

Charlie

It is automatic, Aisin AW60-40LE(AF13). Thanks for the advice. I bought the licensed Ecu Scan but have not used waiting for a cheaper laptop. Can EcuScan scan the gearbox?.

I have the same car with the automatic gearbox and EcuScan using the KL - and/or an ELM cable.
EcuScan could not connect to the automatic gearbox with either cable.

3 years back I had the same red light indicating a failure with the automatic gearbox once.
My garage advised me to flush (search on youtube if you don’t know what that is) the automatic gearbox. That’s an expensive procedure.
So I let them do a regular oil change and added Forte Automatic Transmission Treatment. I’ve never seen the red light coming back again since. And I’ve been driven the car for 80.000 km.

According to the Fiat maintenance schedule the automatic gearbox oil needs to be changed every 60.000 km. Which I did let the garage do but this time with a much cheaper additive..

Hi all just wondering if anyone could help me I have a punto 07 plate semi automatic and just lately it has started jolting a bit and yesterday it come up on the dash saying cheak transmissionbut I don't understand if anyone can help that would be great

Hi, and welcome,
the issue will probably be due to a sensor,
best bet is get the fault code read , that will give you a good idea what THE CAR thinks is wrong,

had the gearbox system serviced at all..??, the fluid levels CAN drop,

Okie will do I has it to a laptop last time and it come up with a proble and now it has started again.

Checking the MES website list of supported vehicles, the autobox is not listed. Fault codes unlikely to show up if autobox not part of EOBD standard. Might need the Fiat genuine reader to get the codes.

If after fluid change and all connectors cleaned problem persists, please describe the symptoms as accurately as you can.

Molly. Punto autobox is different. If problem persists, start a new thread in the Punto section for best help.
